Maxita in Mérida

Introduction

I'm a communication coach currently residing in Merida, Mexico. I've lived all over the world and used to do a lot of sitting for others while traveling. The last few years my dog and I have lived many places, but are now more settled. So, it's my turn to request sitters. I loved sitting and hope to offer a great experience for others as well. Merida is an awesome city and Maxie is the sweetest!

Home & location

Fun and peaceful little attached secure casita with artistic Mexican vibes. It's attached to the landlord's house and he is a really nice guy who is rarely around. It's in a very safe, local neighborhood in an ideal area of Merida. It's a 4 minute walk from Paseo de Montejo, a beautiful Spanish-style tree-lined avenue full of historic mansions and restaurants. It's also just a 15 minute walk to Parque de la Plancha - a new park here with lots to do, even a dog park. It's about a 25 minute walk to Gran Plaza, the cathedral, and historic center. All shopping needs are steps away as well. The casita is essentially 1-bedroom and 1 -combined living space, with an awesome garden space and basic bathroom and laundry. It's not fancy, but it's well-amended, very quiet, and comfortable. The kitchen is basically equipped, all you need to prepare meals on a stovetop. There is only one burner, but it does the job. The fridge is a mini, but also has a freezer. There is no microwave, oven, or toaster. There is a small coffee maker, blender, drinking water, and all cooking basics. There is only one bed, so you will be sleeping in what is normally my bed. All linens will be clean. Maxie sleeps on her bed in the bed when I am there. However, she will most likely prefer to have it on the floor when I am away. She will only go on the bed if her blanket is on it, so you can remove that option if you prefer. My place is a rental and has a lot of cool books about the area and restaurant guides, etc. So that's fun to look at. One really fun thing to do is on Sundays. They close down a part of Paseo de Montejo for bike riding. Lots of locals and foreigners alike rent bikes and ride, or stroll the avenue which has a sidewalk art fair as well, and walk their dogs. Maxie and I go every Sunday. She loves walking that street which is cooler, wide, beautiful, and full of people. We think you'll love it too! Please care for the plants. They require daily watering (unless it really rains) outdoors. Indoor plants need watering a few times a week.

Responsibilities

Maxie is a really happy and easy doggie. She listens, and is very well-trained in both English and Spanish. She loves routine and will let you know in a gentle way when it's time for something. She needs walks and ball play every day. It's hot here in Merida, so we walk in the am (before 10) or after sundown 6+. If it's a cool enough day (under 35C /95F ), she'll happily walk all over town with you regardless of the hour. She does great at outdoor restaurants, around other dogs, kids, etc. But you must be aware of street dogs. Fortunately, there are great areas right around the house for easy and fun walking that isn't problematic. She loves to play ballie in the back garden, and will happily retrieve it 100 times, but I keep it to 25 a session and only when it's cooler than 95. She also LOVES to play with water from the hose and bubbles. She's superb for giving you a giggle. She potties in the garden in one pebble area. She likes it if you pick up poop right away and there's a little trash can outside for it. She prefers to poop on her walk. Maxie is a very sweet, playful, and sensitive doggie. She is very attached to me and will likely be quite sad at first. She is also very timid. She's curious about the world though and will very much make an effort. She will not respond well to anger or yelling, but she appreciates clarity. She enjoys her food and treats. She is a rescue, so I have a pretty set schedule for her, but it's not a big deal to go an hour early or later. Maxie loves to go with you anytime she can. But, she also understands that's not always possible. I work mostly from home, so she is nearly always with me. Feel free to leave her for a half-day to go to the beach or a cenote, etc. just please no longer than 6 hours. If it's a usual hot day here, please leave the ac on for her on an eco setting.

Nancy was very kind and recommended several activities for us to enjoy in the area. We loved Maxie; she was a bit shy at first, but later she enjoyed playing with us and going for walks. She loves bubbles and being petted. It was a great stay. The place was very comfortable and had everything we needed. We hope to come back soon.
