Introduction
Empty-nester who travels periodically for work and/or leisure looking for a reliable dog sitter who would enjoy a stay in coastal Maine with my 12 year-old loving miniature Goldendoodle Humphrey. My 3 kids are grown and I n their own so Humphrey’s people siblings are not usually available to dog-sit.

Humphrey’s House is on a quiet street, 1 mile from the Atlantic Ocean (Kennebunk beaches) and 1 mile from the center of Kennebunkport, a popular tourist location. Its peaceful setting has a spacious screened-in porch that sits adjacent to dense woods. The back patio has a gas grill and a sitting area to enjoy. The sitter/s can choose among two bedrooms with a queen bed in each on the second floor. A small exercise room has a Peloton bike, workout bench, dumbbells, and a yoga mat. A tv room with a pool table are also available. Full kitchen, laundry and access to 1.5 bathrooms. WiFi included, plus Netflix and Amazon Video for streaming. Non-smoking sitters only, please. A/C available in bedrooms.

Humphrey gets fed and given fresh water twice each day. He has an invisible fence to play in the yard and likes 3 walks in the small neighborhood each day. He generally sleeps 10-11 hours each night from 9PM-7AMish. He can be left alone during the day for 6-7 hours provided walks happen before leaving and upon returning home. Humphrey loves people but can be territorial about other dogs coming to his house or going to their’s. Additional responsibilities include bringing in the mail daily and setting the trash and recycling bins at the curb on Sunday evening.

Our stay with Humphrey was terrific! He is an affectionate sweetheart and was super easy to care for. A bark lets you know he’d like to go out which he can do on his own with his electric collar. A nice stroll through the lovely neighborhood twice a day tops his day (or maybe it’s the treat at the end :)) Kate’s house is also lovely and comfortable. She was easy to communicate with, welcoming and kind. And of course Kennebunk has lots to offer. We highly recommend sitting for Kate and Humphrey!

Our stay with Humphrey was just the best!! He welcomed us to his home as if we were long lost friends – there was no “getting to know you” or “let me get used to you” period – he was immediately just so very excited to have us there with him. Kate was also very welcoming and had clear written instructions for us to reference throughout our stay, and she also walked us through all the details of the house and Humphrey’s routines. Communication was easy throughout - from the application process, the handoff coordination, and also during the sit. Her house is lovely, very comfortable and had everything we needed – we felt at home there right away. The neighborhood felt very safe – I thought nothing of taking Humphrey out by myself after dark. And the location is wonderful of course – very close to the ocean and several towns that are fun to explore. But back to Humphrey – because he is the star of this wonderful sit. Our morning routine was to get up and let him out in the yard while we made coffee, then he would come in and play an enthusiastic game of indoor fetch while we drank our coffee, and then we would go out for a walk through the neighborhood. We usually went for three walks a day and he was so excited each time – we couldn’t help but smile as we followed him down the road, laughing at his cheerful, jaunty walking style! In addition to his walks, he went in and out throughout the day, but easily slept through the night. He truly is a joy to be around; he has lots of energy and he does so many funny things that we were always laughing or at least smiling during our stay with him. There are so many reasons to recommend this sit (the location, the house, and Kate all come to mind), but being able to hang out with Humphrey pushes it way over the top! Just one thing that we would do differently next time and want to share with future sitters – we wouldn’t let Humphrey see us pack up to go. When we were loading the car he got very anxious, so I took him on an “emergency walk” while Derric finished the packing. He was fine when we got back since there was no evidence that we would be leaving soon (plus Derric gave him a treat and had an extra special dinner waiting for him). So if there is a way to disguise your plans to leave, we would recommend doing that for Humphrey’s sake : )

Housesitting for Kate and Humphrey was a real pleasure. Kate is a very welcoming and communicative host. Her lovely home is spacious and comfortable in a very peaceful and natural setting, but just minutes from the beaches and Kennebunkport. The area is full of natural beauty and history. Humphrey was a perfect companion. He's always patient, affectionate and enthusiastic ... as far as Humphrey is concerned, every single walk is like a trip to Disney World. We highly recommend a sit for Kate!
