Small dog loves affection, being excited, being cuddled in quiet rural setting
Introduction
I'm retired, worked mostly abroad, while Adam has his own business after years in corporate life, mostly abroad. Due to health issues we've travelled abroad much less in recent years but now hope to go more often. We moved to Somerset just before lockdown to create a small wetland and help Nature, which is taking more time and energy than we thought possible. While we will post specific dates sometimes, we'd also like to hear from sitters who would be willing and able to offer to sit when they have dates free so that we can take off for a few days or even longer. We adopted little Lil, aged 2ish, in June 2023, a lockdown puppy, untrained, unsocialised, reactive. With the help of 2 trainers and behaviourists, Lil is continuing to settle in and lose her fear, and become the sweet little dog she always was underneath. Sadly our other dog Mack became seriously ill and had to be put to sleep only 2 months after we adopted Lil.

We are about 8 miles south of Street and Glastonbury, and about a mile north of the Podimore jnct. on the A303. You'll need a car (buses are very infrequent) unless you don't intend to leave the house for a few days, which is possible as we have our own fields to walk in. You'll stay in the annexe which is more compact and cosier than the house - Lilian is quite at home there. The annexe is not luxury, but it's clean, comfortable and private with lovely views. It has kitchen, bathroom (a bit dated, but functional), a twin room and 2 single rooms. If you're a couple I can push single beds together in the twin room (I hate handling big sheets!). The local area is pretty with lots of little towns and villages as well as numerous walks. There's a lovely local pub that does good food about a mile away in Kingsdon, a pub in Charlton Adam, about 1.5 kms away, and a Co-op, Saturday country market, greengrocer, cafes, hairdressers, butcher etc., in Somerton, about 3 miles away. We are outside the village itself, and very private and quiet. There is no need to take Lil away from the property at all during a short stay.
Show more...Responsibilities
Lilian, adopted from Dogs Trust in June 2023, is very small terrier-type, reactive, cute. She and we are working with a behaviourist to lower Lil's reactivity and barking at the unexpected. She needs 2 c.35-40 min. walks/day, and playtime indoors. Lilian is 5.2 kgs, but squirmy when excited, which is often. She is fed twice/day after her walks, and is always thrown a bit of raw carrot afterwards to clean her teeth. She loves this and regards it as proper food, which is helpful. She has an endless appetite for extra treats etc. and will nose into discarded food wrapping etc. if she can, so you need to be aware of her food-eagerness! We have our own field that Lil can be walked in, but it isn't entirely secure so sitters must keep her on-lead. When she is in the annexe with a sitter, she may try to come into your bedroom with you, which should be discouraged. Say 'no', return her to her bed and tuck her back in. You do have to tuck her in at night after her last pee of the day. Our dates are usually approximate, and we're often a bit last-minute about trips.. If anything falls through and we don't actually go away, sitters are still welcome to stay in the annexe and familiarise themselves with Lil and the surroundings for any future stay.

What a wonderful first sit we did for Ann and Adam and of course, little Mack, he was such a pleasure to look after, will definitely do it again if the need arises. Accommodation was first class, had a great week taking Mack out and about, and so enjoyed the cuddles with him...thank you to both of you...

This was, for me, the perfect sit. Ann and Adam were most accommodating and welcoming and Mack the dog was the perfect companion. The property is beautiful, set in some stunning Somerset countryside. The apartment I stayed in with Mack was very clean and comfortable. I hope I can repeat the experience again soon.

I totally loved looking after Mack! He's such an amusing little character, vocalises everything he needs (so you're never left guessing), either with a squeak, a howl, chattering his teeth, or shoving his bottom jaw out. He loves to steal and hide things in his bed and will follow you around like a little shadow, and be warned, he doesn't seem to care which room he follows you into. I think one day he'll learn how to turn the shower on or pull the flush if he get's a chance! Ann and Adam are warm, caring, fun and most importantly, unbelievably welcoming. I felt completely at ease, accepted and valued as a sitter and as a person in general. I would highly recommend sitting for them. Thank you Ann, Adam and little 'Snack Attack' Mack :)
