Country cottage, with 2 loving doggies, in middle of Festival river-town

Introduction

Hi! I am a Mum of 2 lovely children (my son aged 8 and my daughter aged 10) and 2 fluffy-lovely doggies who are called Biscuit (nearly 2) Rupert (just turning 1). They are a Yorkie cross and a yellow lab. I sometimes think we should have called them Scrappy and Scooby because of their relative personality traits! We are a close team, the 5 of us, and we got our pups because we have some tough times as a single parent family, and have had to compromise on a lot. One of those things being not being able to go on sunny holidays - I thought with the doggies, we can have adventures at home ☀️ But, thanks to teaming up with another family, we finally went on holiday for 3 nights in May and had a wonderful experience with a pet-sitting match here on TH (I can’t put our boys in kennels….!) Our sits will suit a dog lover who likes cottages, rivers, being in a small town centre and of course walking, to come and enjoy Upton-upon-Severn for a few days, and maybe also growing relationships that enable us all to enjoy breaks away and our dogs.

Home & location

We live in a beautiful ‘country’ cottage, yet right in the middle of the riverside town of Upton-upon-Severn! The Post Office and Spar are right around the corner (Co-op and Warners another couple of mins away) and the river a stone’s throw away, not to mention lovely gifty, antique-y shops and a choice of pubs and other eateries, some by the river. Our road is a cul-de-sac, so very quiet, and is opposite the landmark Pepperpot. In the spring and summer months, Upton comes to more life by being the ‘festival’ town - Blues, Jazz, Folk Festivals are particularly renowned. Our home is a period cottage, as you’ll see from the photos, and has 3 floors and 3 bedrooms. You are welcome to the whole house! I keep it clean and tidy as a necessity to ‘survive’ and thrive as a single Mum! The 2nd floor has 2 bedrooms, one with a triple bunk, which is great for when you sleep with your little ones. There is also a ‘Lego station’ (we welcome children of all ages!) and loads of Lego and other toys. I don’t have a cot any more though… The other bedroom has a double bed. The top floor we call the ‘penthouse’! It has its own bedroom and bathroom - here, there is another shower and a double bed and desk, with room for a camp bed (which we have), and a large walk in wardrobe. We have the usual TV with Netflix etc and Alexa (not sure about ‘her’… ). The kitchen has dining space for 8-10 as the table is extendable. Lovely large shower AND large bath in main bathroom. Close by are the beautiful Malvern Hills, with so many lovely walks (hope you’re better at navigating than me!!) and towns nearby are Worcester, Cheltenham and Gloucester. Many lovely country villages and pubs nearby too.

Responsibilities

Biscuit and Rupert need 3+ walks a day. One during the day needs to be a decent one (1 hour+) off the lead, and ideally the first one of the day will be a pre-breakfast run. The other/s a 20ish minute one around the block to do their business! Across the road from us is the ‘Pepperpot’ which is a small grassy area which works for a potter about! I walk them 4-5 times a day as it is very good for me (and them) to get the riverside air and exercise. First walk is when we get up, which varies according to school / hols etc! So, don’t worry about sticking to times. Roughly, they need to go out in morn, 12 hours after they’ve been out the evening before. I don’t leave them more than 3-4 hours without a pootle around the block, or to the Pepperpot for a mooch and a wee. They are fed twice a day, and full instructions will be left (about everything - mainly to help, I’d like to think that you can flex around it to suit your needs, still making sure the doggies needs are met). They LOVE the squeaky ball (I’ll provide many as they can get lost!) and I always go out armed with one in my pocket to distract Rupert when he gets too excited to see a dog or person he loves! And treats too of course… Rupert is 1 now and quite strong but being a Labrador is easily distracted. They both sleep downstairs so that everyone can sleep and they are quiet through the night. We are blessed with healthy happy doggies who need no medication. House-wise, it’s just plant watering if it’s a longer sit and keeping things reasonably clean and tidy I guess. Outside - watering the hanging baskets and pots in the summer (and warmer spring days).

We had fantastic stay in Victoria's lovely cottage right in the centre of Upton upton Severn with lovely restaurants/cafe's just around the corner. It was a pleasure to meet Victoria via video call and her Welcome Guide is very comprehensive. Biscuit is super cute and loves his tummy rubs. Rupert is an adorable lab, very affectionate and loves his ball chasing. Thanks for choosing us Victoria, we highly recommend this sit.
