Westview Cottage, Barton, Lancashire.

Introduction

Hello - we are Paul and Cindy. We live with our 2 Romanian rescue dogs just North of Preston, UK. Paul is semi-retired, a former probation officer. He plays bass guitar in 2 bands, loves the countryside and holidays abroad. Cindy owns a crystal/holistic shop in Lancaster, teaches yoga, reiki and leads other therapies. We both identify as pagan and our home reflects our identities. 2 years ago we rescued 2 Romanian street dogs, Cleo and Kalesi. They are extremely good natured and gentle. To put their needs first we don't often leave them for long periods of time and have holidayed separately, but now feel we want to holiday together. Neither came to us accustomed to handling or domestic routines and are content to exercise in the garden only so are not to be walked. Think of them as large cats, they'll come to you for affection when they choose. So sitting is easy, and only requires feeding them morning and evening, and giving them access to the garden when possible.

This was such a beautiful sit. Cleo and Kalesi are the most adorable, gentle, sweet-natured dogs. I loved them so much that I had tears in my eyes when I had to say goodbye! Paul and Cindy were the perfect hosts. Paul picked me up from the train station and they even made a delicious fresh loaf of bread for me! They went above and beyond to ensure I was happy and comfortable at all times. The garden is every Tolkien fan’s dream with all the wonderful herbs and the house is, well, Elven! Such a feeling of calm and tranquility there. An absolute treat!

Paul and Cindy were very welcoming and left me everything I needed. Their instructions for caring for the house and dogs were accurate and clear and the experience was a pleasure. Cleo and Kalesi are well behaved, and know their routines very well. They are very wary of strangers, so we didn't have a lot of interaction, but that makes it more special when they do come to you. It's vital to be quiet and slow around them, and I soon learnt to go at their pace. I was lucky with the weather and had some relaxing time in the beautiful sunny garden with the dogs and a chance to enjoy walking in the local area and in the Forest of Bowland.

I had a very happy stay with Paul and Cindy . I was made to feel welcome and the instructions given to me were comprehensive and clear. The dogs are so loveable and sweetnatured and undemanding. The house is eclectic and I found it to be a calming and tranquil place to be. The garden has a green house where you can sit with a book and watch the dogs enjoying pottering around. The dogs Cleo and Kalesi have a great relationship and enjoy basking in front of the log burner. There are many places of interest in easy reach with canal side walks and several restaurants where you might be lucky enough to sample the local produce. Paul and Cindy left me with everything I needed for my stay and I hope to see them again. Thank you both for accommodating me.
