House and dog sit in the Wasdale valley. Lakes UNESCO world heritage location.

Introduction

We are a retired couple, both teachers. Anne was a middle school leader and then finished her career as a secondary school leader in a bilingual school in China. I worked as a teacher and researcher in Education at a university. I now write and volunteer with Wasdale Mountain Rescue. Anne also helps out with fund raising. We have one small dog called Watson. We don't want to put him in kennels. The reviews mention Oscar too, but sadly, he is no longer with us. We are looking for kind and considerate people who will enjoy a rural location and respect a mountain and farming community.

Home & location

Our home is in the Lake District National Park - a very rural area about 4 miles from the nearest village. Please note that it is not in Wasdale Head but close by. It is a characterful and beautiful location at any time of the year and recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage location. It isn't just a great place in the summer - it is a fabulous place all year round. Our house has three bedrooms, a nice lounge with wood stove and underfloor heating. There is reliable broadband and satellite tv. All the usual amenities are also present: washing machine, dishwasher, tumble dryer etc. We also have a bootroom which is great to dry things out after a muddy walk. There are neighbours close by who are very helpful. There is a lovely garden with views of the fells. You'll meet other dog walkers that will know our dog so, for a while, you will be able to join this community! There is a great pub just a 5 min walk away and a 15-minute drive brings you to the base of some of the most well-known and historic mountains in the UK - Scafell Pike, Scafell, Pillar, Great Gable and Great End. You can also access the beaches on the coast in about 20 minutes. Drigg beach for example is usually empty and at low tide has a huge expanse of sand and rock.

We absolutely loved our time looking after Watson and Oscar - two really sweet dogs. Andy was great to communicate with prior to and during the sit and gave us really helpful clear, concise notes in the Welcome Guide with everything we needed. The house and surrounding area are absolutely gorgeous and there are so many beautiful walks right outside the door. Watson and Oscar were very helpful showing us their favourite walks! It is a very special place and we thank you both Andy and Anne for inviting us to come and look after your lovely hounds and house. As I'm sure you know, we'd love to come back another time if you'll have us! :)

This was a wonderful housesit. Andy and Anne were great, very welcoming, ,laid back and communication was easy. We thoroughly enjoyed our time looking after Oscar and Watson in Nether Wasdale, although both in their senior years, they had plenty of energy and we enjoyed exploring the many paths around the area. with them. They enjoyed relaxing post walks and were a pleasure to spend time with. This is an outstanding location and a lovely home, having all the necessary amenities and surrounded by fells, ,mountains and with Wast Water on the doorstep. I can't recommend this sit highly enough and we wouldn't hesitate to go back if asked.

We had such a wonderful time at Andy & Anne's place. They are so welcoming and nothing was a problem. We found that communication was excellent in all matters and we got on really well with them both. The house is very comfortable and in a lovely area. Oscar and Watson are adorable and so well behaved. We had a fabulous time walking the countryside with them both as there are many woodland walks and country paths just out the back door as well as exploring the many local parks. We were sad to leave them both after our housesit as we had become quite attached. The local community is also very welcoming. Without hesitation, we highly recommend Andy & Anne and Oscar & Watson :)
