Dog sitting at Craigllwyn in the Welsh Hills

Introduction

Hello - let me introduce myself. My name is Janet and I live in a comfortable bungalow beautifully situated and held by the surrounding Welsh Hills. I am an ordained Buddhist and I need to be away for periods of time to go on retreat as well as visiting family and friends from time to time. My companion in this lovely setting is Rufus the dog.

Home & location

The bungalow is in a little hamlet called Tylwch, set some way up the hill giving it beautiful views and lots of sun. The nearest town is four miles away and its a delightful place called Llanidloes. It has a lot to offer for a small town, including a vegetarian cafe and a beautiful bookshop. The bungalow is comfortable and spacious. There are two bedrooms, each with a SINGLE bed. I mention this because its not ideal for couples therefore unless you are happy to be in separate rooms at either end of the house!

Responsibilities

Sometimes when I am away I can take Rufus the dog with me, so it would just be looking after the house and the birds. There is a plentiful array of birds who enjoy their daily stops at Cafe Craigllwyn, so their feeders need topping up dailyi. When Rufus the dog is home, he is a delightful companion who loves his walks. He needs two a day to keep him happy of at least 40 mins length. There are local walks as well as some gorgeous ones a short car ride away. He's a playful fellow and pretty well behaved most of the time. He loves people and other dogs but he also likes his space.

I really enjoyed watching Rufus for Janet! She was a very welcoming host, and kindly made me dinner on my first night. She had a binder with all the information I needed for a successful sit, and even wrote down local walks I could do with Rufus. Rufus still has a lot of energy for an 11 year old dog, and he loves his long walks. We took two walks a day and went 4-6 miles per day. He has excellent recall off lead, unless there are chickens nearby! He is an extremely well behaved dog, and enjoys being near you when resting. I took him on several adventures in the car, and he did a great job. You just have to make sure he is back on lead before the car is in sight, because he really dislikes getting back in the car to go home. Rufus and I bonded quite well, and I miss him already! Janet's home is lovely, and the views are absolutely amazing. There are quite a few plants to water, which took a little more time than I was expecting, but it was fairly therapeutic after a few days. I enjoyed taking care of the bird feeders for her each morning - there were quite a few birds waiting for me no matter how early I fed them! Her community is incredibly welcoming and supportive. I think I met almost all of her neighbors over the three weeks I was there! It was nice to know that help was just up the road if I needed anything. If you're looking for a getaway in the Welsh hills with lots of lovely walks through the fields, this is the sit for you!

My stay at Janet's was so lovely. The place was so peaceful, well equipped and clean. Surrounded by stunning Welsh hills and lovely walks all around which Rufus was very excited to show me twice a day. Rufus was a delight to sit for, so friendly, sweet and well behaved, loved his food, snacks and walks and more walks. We explored the surrounds further afield by car as well, which he and I loved. Great communication, good instructions left by Janet. Would highly recommend to any dog and peaceful nature lovers.

I had the absolute pleasure of being chosen to be Janet's house sitter. I can honestly say that i have never been to such a wonderful, peaceful part of the UK. The views from the house are spectacular and to sit outside and have my meals and enjoy the countryside is a real treat. Rufus and I got on so well and he is such a wonderful companion, well behaved off lead and we enjoyed all of our walks, there are so many to chose from and he is a great guide. Such lovely easy company and also great in the town too, a real pleasure to take anywhere. A must is Hafren Forest, worth the drive out to as it is such a fabulous place to walk. Also Ynyslas Beach is worth the drive to, recommended by Janet. All of the places to visit were left for me in a folder which was super helpful when everywhere is new. I had a few wifi issues which were soon sorted but no phone signal (02) until i drove out into the town (an easy few mins drive and has everything you should need there) or walked halfway up a hill! But no problems as there is a housephone for emergencies. But it was a real treat to put my phone away and enjoy the walks and peace and quiet. Safi was absolutely no trouble at all and it was a pleasure to take care of him too. I would love to return again soon and enjoy this lovely lifestyle. Thank you Janet.
