Beste dierenliefhebbers, mijn naam is Anita Plasschaert. Mijn echtgenoot en ik wonen in Ulvenhout. Een bosrijke omgeving vlakbij het mooie en gezellige Breda. Omdat wij ook dierenliefhebbers zijn en ons laatste thuiswonende kind het nest heeft verlaten zitten wij zonder oppas voor onze dieren wanneer wij eens wat langer van huis willen zijn. Vandaar dus deze oproep, wat wij best heel spannend vinden.

Zoals eerder geschreven staat ons huis in een bosrijke omgeving maar ook water is vlakbij. Ulvenhout ligt tussen het Ulvenhoutse bos en de rivier de Mark in. Het gebied waar de Mark doorheen stroomt is heel vogelrijk. Ook loopt langs de Mark een fietspad wat je rechtstreeks naar Belgie brengt. In Meerseldreef zijn bij de paters erg lekkere appelflappen te koop en zeker ook een Bels biertje. Ons huis is een twee onder een kapwoning met eigen oprit. Helaas hebben wij geen tweede auto ter beschikking (onze Vonkje, 2 cv, heeft het na 18 jaar op moeten geven). Wel blijven altijd twee fietsen achter!! Alles is goed te doen met de fiets. En ook buslijn 132 stopt niet ver van ons huis. In geval van een noodbezoek aan onze vaste dierenarts zijn er altijd bereidwillige buren te vinden.

Omdat het 6 katten zijn staat bij ons de deur naar buiten niet altijd voor ze open. In de regel gaan ze twee keer per dag ongeveer een uur naar buiten. Dit is goed te regelen in combinatie met eten geven, ze zijn het gewend. Pandora en Remus gaan de tuin uit, Julius en Saartje inmiddels ook. Ze zijn nooit ver weg meestal hoor ik hun reactie wanneer ik ze roep (fluit) meteen aan de belletjes. Flora en Aphrodite leven boven. Flora heeft als kitten een aanrijding overleefd en is na de operatie scheel gebleven. Zij zijn samen van Kreta naar hier gekomen. Omdat de katten veel binnen zijn is het bijhouden van de kattenbakken een wezenlijk onderdeel van de verzorging naast het eten geven en knuffelen. Afhankelijk van de tijd in het jaar blijf ik vaak in de tuin om de kikkers en vogels te beschermen. In het groeiseizoen is er altijd wel wat te rommelen in de tuin. Vooral de hangplanten watergeven en het kippennachthok schoonmaken zijn taken die ik doe wanneer de katten buiten zijn. Vooral Pandora wil zich in onze tuin nog wel eens ergens onder verstoppen om van daaruit op de vogels te loeren. Dat is er eentje om in de gaten te houden. Remus gaat meestal zijn rondje lopen. Julius en Saar blijven vaak in de buurt. Julius is eigenlijk meer een hondje loopt graag om je heen of komt bij je zitten.

The first thing that I thought when I entered in their house was: "This is cat paradise!" :D They live in a beautiful and peaceful village with a woods close by, where I did lots of walks. Before the sit, Anita sent me a very detail Welcome Guide: tasks weren't difficult but of course taking care of 7 cats requires a good schedule and memory, so I was glad that they invited me to stay for few days before the sitting. They're both easygoing, so it was such a good time together! (Even if I'm the worst Dutch language student ever ahaha) Living with seven cats was amazing: each of them had different needs, but they are all very well behaved! I was definitely in love with Noire, that always sat on my lap, and with the girls upstairs, especially with Flora, so shy and diffident at the beginning, she ended up sleeping with me and requiring lots of cuddles :) Thank you again, hope to see all of you again!!

Our stay in Anita and Maarten's charming home in the beautiful village of Ulvenhout was an absolute joy. As we had already agreed to an overlapping sit in Italy, Fede arrived first and had the pleasure of sharing a few days with our hosts, who gave him a warm welcome, taught him the ropes, and introduced him to their endearing gang of animals: the cats + kitten Saartje, Pandora, Noirtje, Remus, Julius, Aphrodite and Flora, the hens + cock and chicks, and the fish! A merry collection of different characters, accurately profiled by our hosts in their very helpful welcome guide, easy to care for and love. The house and garden are simply beautiful (as are the surrounding streets, forests, and fields) and we enjoyed superb summer days watching the kitties and chickens and many other colorful birds roam around them as we worked from the large wooden table overlooking the greenery. We were extremely satisfied to find such a privileged home office setup, including a robust and reliable Wi-Fi connection, which allowed us to carry on with our remote work. This was our first sit after relocating to The Netherlands, and it simply couldn't have worked out better for us. We loved everything about it: the adorable pets (we miss them already), our attentive and generous hosts, their dream home and kind neighbors, and the spectacular area. By the way, we really appreciated having two bikes at our disposal, as there are countless cycling paths to choose from, one more idyllic than the other! Communication with Anita and Maarten was smooth and friendly from the start: they were candid about their expectations, provided clear instructions about their pets and the house, were quick to respond to any questions, and offered plenty of recommendations on what to explore, do, try, etc. to get the most out of our stay. We are deeply grateful for their open and trusting hospitality and feel very fortunate to have found our way to them in the first place. They can definitely count on us to get on a bus and visit them and/or sit for them again at any time, and we 100% recommend fellow sitters to apply for any dates they list in the future, as we surely will!

Het was een fijn weekend bij Anita, Maarten en de beestenbende. De katten zijn stuk voor stuk lieverds met een eigen karaktertje. Het is leuk ze te leren kennen. Wanneer je hier gaat oppassen kies je wel voor wat werk met alle dieren maar het is zeker de moeite waard. Het huis is van alle gemakken voorzien en ligt op een schitterende plek. Anita nam de tijd om me alles goed uit te leggen en te laten zien en mijn eigen slaap- en badkamer waren heerlijk. Bedankt voor dit weekend!
