House in the Wiltshire countryside: fast train to London. Close to Oxford, Bath, Bristol & Stonehenge

My husband and I both work mainly from home. Our children are grown up and live away from home. While they will come back to house and animal sit for weekends they don't have time to help during the week. With so many animals we have always had a house sitter when we go away. We have cleaners coming in once a week and we also have a gardener for a few hours a week.

We live just outside the village of Wanborough near Swindon. There is a fast trainline into London (1 hour). We are also well located for visiting Oxford, Bath, Bristol, Stonehenge and Stratford. The house is surrounded by fields with plenty of great walks. The views from the front of the house across to the Marlborough Downs, are stunning. The house has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms upstairs and a 4th shower room downstairs. There is a large family kitchen, a separate dining room, drawing room, sitting room and gym with an infa-red sauna, as well as an office, utility room and boot room. Outside there is a large garden, and at the back is the yard with a barn containing the stables. There is a manege for riding and a separate swimming pool which although covered isnt heated in the winter. We have nearly 9 acres in total

We have several animals. Our 2 lovely dogs are Rosie, a Labrador and Jasper a terrier of unknown parentage. Our 2 cats are called Fliss and Milly. Our two horses, Clover and Dolly will be looked after separately. We also have 6 chickens and 2 ducks so there are normally free eggs. All the animals need feeding every morning. The poultry will all go to bed when it is dark so just need the runs to be shut to keep them safe from foxes. The dogs will want a walk every day, but are also happy running around in the garden and our fields. We also have some house plants that would appreciate some water while we are away.

We had a lovely time looking after this beautiful home and the pets. The owners had a great guide they shared before the sit. They also left a clear typed note with detailed instructions for all the animals care. They also left some numbers of the vets and friends who were available if needed. All the animals were lovely and easy to care for with the instructions given. The home was very clean and tidy. The bed was so comfortable. The pool and sauna were an added bonus.

If you love lots of animals then this sit is for you. I had a lovely time taking care of Rosie and Jasper and they became quite fond of Max. The two cats were very sweet and Maxi loved to come out and help me muck out. The horses were very well behaved and I enjoyed riding out. As the horses were in overnight, the work is as you would expect looking after two horses. I had the added bonus of snow but the upside was I did get some beautiful photos of the animals in the snow! Dragon the Goat was no trouble at all and it was nice to go and give him a scratch and have a little chat to him everyday. Quite a lot of poultry but they all knew their routines and the benefit was having the fresh eggs for breakfast. The house is very comfortable and I would have no hesitation in recommending this sit.
