Care for our sweet pup in beautiful North Carolina!
Introduction
Roberto and I have been living in Winston-Salem since 2020 and love it here. Prior to this, we lived in Costa Rica for 9 years, and that is where we got our dog, Tinta, when she was just 6 weeks old. We are retired now, but we both worked for non-profit organizations our entire career. We met as Peace Corps Volunteers in the late 70's when we served together in Paraguay. Since then, we've traveled and lived in several foreign countries and are fluent in Spanish (both of us) and Tagalog (Roberto). One of the reasons we moved to Winston was to be a part of the Sawtooth School for Visual Arts, where Roberto regularly takes pottery classes. He also has a home studio in the back building on the property. Jeanne is a fiber artist, focusing mainly on hand-knitting. We both participate in our annual Ardmore neighborhood Art Walk each November. We also love hiking, birding, cooking and traveling. We love meeting new people and sharing our home with others, and we're always excited to hear about other people's travels and adventures. We're looking for the perfect person/couple to take care of our beloved Tinta while we're away at a reunion in Colorado. She has never been kenneled and is happiest when people are around to give her reassurance and belly rubs!

Winston-Salem is a city of 250,000 located in the Piedmont Triad area of central North Carolina. Our home is located in the beautiful historic Ardmore neighborhood, just one block away from Miller Park, a lovely, well-used amenity that has wooded walking trails, picnic shelters, ballfields, tennis courts, and a playground. We are within easy walking distance of several grocery stores, shopping, restaurants and coffee shops and hospitals. It's a peaceful, friendly neighborhood where you'll see people out walking their dogs, working in their yards, and chatting with their neighbors. Downtown is just 3 miles away and can be easily reached by car, bus, or on foot. The city bus stops right in front of the house and runs on an hourly schedule. Downtown has many amenities, including shopping, restaurants, parks, public library, the Winston-Salem Symphony, Historic Old Salem Museum and Gardens, the YMCA, and the Reynolds House Museum, to name a few. Salem Lake is about 7 miles away and offers picnic areas, walking/biking trails, canoe and kayak rental and fishing. Other popular spots include Tanglewood Park, the downtown Arts District, Wake Forest University, farmers markets, and Truist Stadium--home of minor league baseball team, The Dash. While we're away, you'll be sleeping in a queen-size bed on the ground floor. A full bathroom is right across the hall. You'll have full access to the kitchen and all pots, pans, appliances, etc. There is another full bath on the second floor, and a washer and dryer in the basement. We have a fenced in back yard and a covered patio with a table and chairs, where you can enjoy your morning coffee or a meal cooked on the grill.

Tinta needs 2 walks each day. The first one is usually around 7 am, and we always go to Miller Park. She likes to smell every leaf and twig and usually pees several times and poops once. Sometimes she wants to walk all through the trails, and other days she just wants to come back home. When we get home, she has her breakfast and then goes to one of her sleeping spots, or sometimes she stands by the patio door waiting to be let out into the yard. She goes between napping spots and hanging out in the yard throughout most of the day. Right around 4 pm she'll let you know that it's time for her afternoon walk. Often, this is just around the block, but sometimes we go back to Miller Park. As soon as she gets back from her walk, she's ready for her dinner. We like to take her to Salem Lake or Reynolda Gardens once a week for a longer walk - up to about 4 miles. She sleeps in the downstairs bedroom on her bed. Very occasionally, she'll wake us up in the night to go outside and pee, but this is very rare. If it's raining or very wet outside, she doesn't like to go out, but we try and persuade her to get out to pee at the very least. Thunder and lightning make her nervous, so she'll usually crawl under the bed if there are any booms. She's a very sweet old girl, and she loves having people around. Though she isn't super affectionate or kissy, she's happiest when people are nearby, and she loves belly rubs and ear scratches. She can be left alone for up to 4 hours at a time, but she does need to be inside when you're away from the house. We never leave her in the back yard when we aren't at home. There are a few plants that will need watering once a week, but none of them are fussy or complicated. All instructions for the house and the dog will be printed and tacked to the refrigerator.
