Big house with big friendly dogs in charming Tenerife village.
Introduction
Hi pet lovers! I and my dog Rocky live in a small, friendly village in the greener part of Tenerife. We love going for walks, especially in the forest. For many years, I ran a small B and B. I have had hundreds of guests and Rocky has made them all welcome. But now my circumstances have changed. I will be spending a lot more time in England in the summer. I will be able to see more of my family, especially my children and grandchildren. At present, I am putting the dogs in kennels, where they are happy to go, but it is expensive and not the same as home! I am looking for someone, who preferably would like to stay for at least a month at a time.

I have a three bedroom house, with three terraces, a large kitchen with gas hob, electric oven, microwave, large fridge and separate freezer. There is a large sitting room with TV. Free WiFi is also included. I also have a small, self- contained studio. There is a utility room with washing machine and plenty of line space to hang washing. I have views of Mount Teide and the sea. Guest bedrooms all have ensuite bathrooms. Parking is in the street nearby. The nearest supermarket is about 500 metres. There is also a freezer shop and greengrocers. The charming old town of Icod de los Vinos is about 5km. Playa San Marcos is a small fishing harbour and beach close by. There is also the seaside town of Garachico with dramatic volcanic lava flows, which created a series of natural bathing pools. House sitters will have a large bedroom with private bathroom and small terrace. There are lots of opportunities for local sight seeing and beautiful hikes.

Both dogs are very clean and I take them out 3 or four times a day to do their wees and poos in the bushes or long grass near the house. I usually walk them about 3 or 4 kilometres a day. They can be left for 6 - 8 hours, though. They are very gentle with people and playful with other dogs. I have never had a problem. Rocky however will kill small animals, including cats and must wear a muzzle whenever he leaves the house. He will sit nicely to have the muzzle put on especially if he is offered a treat from inside the muzzle! I only feed them once a day, in the evening about 8.30, after supper. They will eat just about anything, especially leftover supper. They hate vegetables and poppadoms. Like all dogs, they loved being petted and having a tummy rub. I would invite sitters to arrive a few days before I leave, to allow them to get to know the boys and vice versa. I will always be available by phone or WhatsApp and have very helpful neighbours who have been very reliable if there is a problem with the house.

Clear communication. However, at the end, the sitting was quite least minute, the flight ticket were expensive and so we agreed on leaving the sit for an Ukrainian girl who was needing a place to stay and who was already near their place. Thank you anyway for the trust. Hope to meet you and your pets another time. :)

We spent a month in Dinah's amazing house and took care of Rambo and Rocky. The house has a patio and two terraces with a beautiful view of Teide and the ocean. There are flowers everywhere, including hibiscus and geraniums of all possible colours. We spent a lot of time with the doggies who are very friendly and love petting and rubbing. I walked Rambo who is very calm and Vladimir walked Rocky who is more temperamental and needs a stronger leader. We warmed to both dogs and we miss them already. Thank you, Dinah, that we could spend such nice time at your place with your dogs.

We are happy that we could house-sit for Dinah for 5 weeks in her beautiful and large house in the north of Tenerife. Dinah with her husband reconstructed this house themselves and because it was used as tourist accommodation it is really comfortable. There is a huge and really well-equipped kitchen, three terraces with many plants and nice views of the ocean and the Teide mountain. Although it is in the north, it’s only 150 m above the sea level which means that the weather here is nice and warm even in autumn and winter. The closest surrounding of the house is not especially nice but in a few minutes you can get by car to a charming village San Marcos with a beach, to the beautiful Icod de los Vinos or to the forest. We really appreciated that we could use Dinah’s comfortable car. There is a friendly neighbour living nearby who can help if there is a problem with the house or the car. Rocky and Rambo are very friendly big dogs and Rambo is especially easy-going. With Rocky you need to be careful when there are any small animals because he chases them and would probably kill them. We also had some issues with him doing his poos on the upper terrace even when we walked him at least 3 times a day. Both Rocky and Rambo love being petted and rubbed and they enjoy spending time with you. They barely ever bark, we never heard them barking at night which we appreciated. We are very grateful to Dinah that she let Martin’s mum spend 2 weeks with us in one of the guest bedrooms. We wouldn’t hesitate to come and house-sit for Dinah again.

Our time at Dinah’s place was a fantastic experience! We’ve enjoyed every minute and it could not have been better. Dinah and Ralph were great hosts and we stayed with them for a few days before they left. They were kind enough to pick us up from the airport and they made us feel at home right from the start. Dinah cooked us a paella dish one night, which was simply amazing! Rambo and Rocky are two gentle giants that are very easy to care for. We warmed to them right from the start and will be sad to say goodbye. We enjoyed the walks with them, especially in forest in the mornings. They love a snack now and then, especially their afternoon cheese sandwich treat! They also love a cuddle and their favourite time for this is after their dinner. The house is situated in a quiet small village near the coast, but also it’s close to the main road so it’s easy to get around. Dinah kindly left her car with us, so this was a big plus. The house had everything we needed, and the kitchen and terraces were very spacious. It has some great views, with the ocean on one side, and mount Teide on the other! We loved spending time on the rooftop in the evenings, looking up at the many stars in the sky. There are plenty of things to do in the area such as San Marcos, Garachico, Masca, Cueva del viento and Loro parque. Thanks again Dinah and Ralph for letting us stay and looking after the boys. It’s a shame we couldn’t meet you both for when you return, but we really hope you will have us again one day in the future :) All the best, Matthew and Hyemin
