Lovely downtown Napa home with two cats

Introduction

Hi there! We live in downtown Napa and travel periodically to visit family and on vacation. We need help looking after our cat Stormy while we are away. I'm a lawyer and my partner is a planner. We love music, gardening, design, exploring the outdoors, and international travel.

Home & location

Our house is a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath home in downtown Napa. It is very colorful and cozy - full of art, fuzzy rugs, pillows, soft landings, and more than a few disco balls. The house is a 1930s Spanish style with lots of period charm and vintage details. The main bedroom (where sitters will stay) has a queen bed. The second bedroom has been set up as an office. There is also a one room cottage in the backyard where you can work from. The kitchen has the original tiles but has been updated with modern appliances (including dishwasher). There's a cozy breakfast nook to enjoy your morning coffee. We are avid gardeners - everywhere you look you will be surrounded by plants. The backyard has a lush garden, and the house also has a nice front porch and side deck for lounging. The house has heating and air conditioning. There is no TV, but you can stream on your laptop. One thing to note about privacy: our house has lots of windows, including a large picture window in the front room. Because Stormy like to climb the curtains, we leave all of the curtains in the main part of the house open (as they appear in the photos) at all times. The bedroom is in a different area of the house where you can keep the curtains open/closed as you see fit. But you will need to be comfortable with having the view into the living room part of the house open. Location: we are located in downtown Napa, across from a lovely park. It is a great neighborhood with friendly neighbors and lots of activity with people walking dogs and enjoying the park. It is in a very walkable part of Napa - less than a 1/2 mile walk to downtown Napa's shops, tasting rooms and restaurants (lots of fine dining), and less than a mile walk to the Oxbow market (no hills). There's easy access to highway 29 if you want to go up valley and explore the wineries in Yountville (15 min drive), St. Helena (30 min drive) and Calistoga (40 min drive). It is about an hour drive to San Francisco (more with traffic), accessible by either the Golden Gate or the Bay Bridge.

Responsibilities

Your primary responsibility will be looking after our cat Stormy and our foster kitten Pinky (there is a chance Pinky may be adopted by the time of your sit, in which case you will only be looking after Stormy - I will let you know in advance if that happens). Stormy's schedule is pretty easy: she is an indoor/outdoor cat and spends most of time in the garden, which she accesses freely at all times through a pet door. Pinky is a kitten we are fostering. As he young and very playful, he requires a fair amount of attention throughout the day. The sitter will need to spend at least 3 hours a day playing with him (spread throughout the day). You can multi-task some of this play time by having him chase a cat wand while you read or watch a show, for example. Food and water: both cats free feed on dry food, so you need to check their bowls periodically to see if they need refreshing. Same with water bowls. Pinky also gets a small amount of wet kitten food in the morning and at night, and Stormy gets a wet food treat each night. There are three litter boxes in the house that need to be checked and cleaned daily. Our ideal sitter is a cat lover who will be able to spend a fair amount of time at home during their stay with the kitties. We also like to work with sitters who are interested in developing a relationship for repeat sits. We appreciate a daily check by text while we away, and photos are always appreciated. There are few plants in the garden which may require periodic watering, depending on how hot it is and the duration of your stay - but most of the garden is set up on irrigation and doesn't require attention. There are a lot of houseplants in the house, a few of which may require watering during a longer stay. We will also need the sitter to bring in any mail and packages, and put out the trash bins for pick up if staying on Thursday night.

This is an ideal house sit! Heather provided a written house and pet sitting manual that covered everything. For the few questions that I had, she was very available via text. I took care of three foster kittens who were a delight. The home is beautiful and comfortable, and I was able to stroll to downtown Napa every day. This is really an ideal situation: prepared and thoughtful owners, adorable pets, a lovely & unique home, and a charming town.

Roman and Macie were great sitters. They are warm and personable, easy to communicate with, and organized. Most importantly, they took great care of our pets. I could tell from the daily checks in they sent with photos and videos that all three of our cats were in good hands and getting lots of love while we were away. They left the house in impeccable condition upon departure. We would welcome them back again!
