Easy, restful housesit with my rescue dog
Introduction
Hello, my name is Ayama. I live in Grass Valley, California, a small town about 65 miles from Sacramento and located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. I'm retired and have a sweet home in the country, about 12 miles from town. Now that I am retired, I have more time to travel...mainly for family reunions back east, and some vacationing in Mexico. I’ve had dogs for most of the time I’ve lived here...one I was able to leave with friends, and my second I was able to board at a local kennel. My new rescue dog is a special needs dog and must be taken care of at home. That said, if I had known about TrustedHousesitters earlier, I would have wanted the same for my other dogs...just seems like the best way to go!

It's a sweet home, two stories with two bedrooms and an office. It's an older home with cozy-sized rooms. The living room has a great wood stove which essentially heats the entire home during winter. It is situated on an acre amongst tall pine, fir, and cedar trees. There are nice walks along country roads right outside my door. It is a quiet, peaceful, and beautiful place and I feel very grateful to be living here. My property is just between two towns...Grass Valley and Nevada City. There are cute shops in both towns and lots of gold-mining history in the area...with two gold mine museums. Plenty of nature walks in the area, and Lake Tahoe is about an hour and a half drive, while San Francisco is two and a half hours by car. Our local fairgrounds hosts annual world Celtic Festival and World music festivals. We have several local cinemas, art studios, music venues, and, boutique clothing and specialty shops.

Sophy is a rescue dog who has pretty extreme trust issues. She a sweet doggle, but very sensitive and very shy. She is going outside a few times a day, but doesn’t necessarily take care of all her potty needs, so she does use pee pads (eventually she will get there…). I've been working with her for months using the Trust Technique, and working with a trainer via zoom, to build relationship and trust between us. She has come a long way...and, has a long way to go. Besides feeding Sophy three times a day, changing her water daily, you will need to be okay with putting out new pads, throwing away used pads, and cleaning up an occasional mess when she misses the pad (unusual). Sophy is on a daily anti-anxiety medication which you will to give to her in the morning. Sophy takes it buried in a piece of string cheese along with a few treats. You won't need to walk her, but you will need to have her outside a few times a day to run in the yard. Finally, it will be good if you can hang out with her and talk with her in gentle tones. At some point you might be able to pet her also. All in all, It can be a pretty easy pet and house sit as you can basically relax, read, be with the dog and take care of her few needs. You would not need to be in the home 24/7. I've left Sophy alone for up to seven hours and she has been fine. Some watering will be needed depending on the season and length of stay. Should you decide to come be with Sophy and house sit for us, I'll be happy to send more detailed information and answer any questions you might have. Thank you.
