Secluded traditional rural cottage and working small holding in friendly village

Introduction

I have a heavenly small holding in a sustainable space. It is a little muddy and messy and can be cold if you leave the doors open as fire lighting time at 6pm! But I think it is rural heaven and I love being here. There are great walks and a friendly local rural pub. The village is super friendly and the somerset levels make an AMAZING hike. The home and gardens are calming to the soul. I am also on WWOOF uk and my wonderful WWOOFERS are those who I simply could not cope without but they need me present. Sometimes I do need to get away so I am looking for someone who wants a country break to relax and be around animals and just enjoy the seclusion and space. I wish I were tidier but it is a typical farmhouse. Messy, hasty and disorganised. It is not a posh townhouse I am afraid. Imagine Darling Buds of May meets Steptoe and Sons! EEK! I currently have a litter of puppies that need looking after too! In my world my animals come first and so I struggle to leave as I am so worried that they are being well looked after. Having someone trusted to care for them would mean the world to me on those times when I have to go away from my heaven. Thank you for thinking of coming to help me!

Home & location

My home is a very old fashioned traditional detached house in a very rural welcoming and friendly traditional farming community. The house has wood burners for heating and we live a fairly traditional cottage farm life so the house is old and weathered! It has one bed room and close to 5 acres approx field and 1.4 acre garden/orchard with many outbuildings. Downstairs there is a dining room and sitting room which is cozy and centres around the wood burner. The kitchen is due to be knocked down and extended so this is very old and not the prettiest I am so sorry to admit! It has an oil fired Rayburn and there is a loo downstairs and very posh bathroom upstairs but no shower. There are animals everywhere! Cats, dogs, chickens, ducks and the occasional spider, all of whom are welcome into the kitchen but not the rest of the house. This home is ideally for someone or a couple wanting to get away from it all rather than a person who needs all mod cons immediately. It is very charming and in a delightful, rural location. We should point out that there are a few tripping hazards in the garden so take care. The house is in the country village of Low Ham. Low Ham is a popular hamlet situated less than 2 miles from Langport and less than 4 miles from Somerton. The town of Langport has a range of facilities fulfilling most day to day needs, with a variety of shops including a Tesco store, medical centre, various churches and schools for all age ranges including the well known Huish Academy. The town of Langport itself lies only about eight miles north of the A303 which connects to the national motorway network, and is well placed for the larger towns of Taunton with its main-line railway station (London/Paddington), Bridgewater and Yeovil with their main-line stations (Waterloo+Paddington). Dorset coast is about 25 miles.

Responsibilities

Enjoy the place! There are morning and evening loooking after the animals jobs for feeding but apart from that there is nothing to do. In the morning the poultry, horses and peacocks need feeding as well as the doves that seem to have joined us. Then the dogs need putting in to their secure compound and that is it. If you go out, the dogs need locking securely in to the house. At night the animals all need their evening feed and the dogs need to come in to sleep. The dogs do not need walking as they have a secure run and the field which they will need to go in to every day for as long as you want. Somepeople want to groom the horses or play with the dogs and that is fine as long as we have a chat about it and ensure that you are safe around horses. If you want to do jobs, then we can have a chat about what you want to tinker with and then go from there but otherwise just enjoy the peace and quiet of the area. In the summer the watering system will need putting on for the vegetable patches in rotation throughout the day but only if we have had little rain. Again, some people like weeking (I certainly do!) and if you want to do this, again lets chat as I am very relaxed about it.
