Dog and House Sitting in Shropshire.

Introduction

We live in a small village in Shropshire with our Black Labrador, Dennis. He is an only child and still intact and when we travel for work or leisure we would prefer to have him taken care of in his own home, with his usual routine and lots of love and play and cuddles, and walks of course! We work from home so Dennis is used to having company during the day and not used to being left for long periods of time, or often. That said he is happy to be left in the house for up to 4 hours after he's had a walk and some food. We have a lovely house and garden and would love to meet dog and country lovers who would enjoy being here with Dennis.

Home & location

A detached house in a quiet village with beautiful views and a nice large garden. The village doesn't have a shop or a pub, but the nearest village is only a mile away and has both. We are a 10 minute drive to the supermarkets and 15 minutes into the centre of Shrewsbury.

Responsibilities

Twice daily feed, at least one good (min 30 minute) walk each day - up to x2 walks of 30-60 mins (weather dependant) Cuddles, company and playtime - kicking a football or tennis ball throwing, but he gets over excited so we keep it to occasional short bursts! Keeping him out of deep fast flowing rivers and out of mischief. He loves water so staying away from big rivers is a must.. Our garden is pretty secure but he does like to chase cats, birds and furry creatures so keep an eye on him when he's outside. He also digs holes. In the house he is allowed on the leather sofa in the kitchen, but not on any other furniture. He eats at about 8am and about 6pm - and he tends to go to bed at about 10pm and will sleep until 7.30-8am. He's pretty low maintenance most of the time but does get very cuddly sometimes and will 'chat' by whining when he wants to play. He barks when he hears certain noises, people coming to the door etc. We distract him with a toy or something when he does that because we don't want to stop him from barking at danger but not to be a nuisance. He is not allowed to play tug, he is allowed occassional human food treats of yoghurt, apple (peeled and cored) carrot and lean meat and has everyday treats and high value treats. He has an every day treat now and again 'just because' and a high value treat when he is left on his own, and after we have eaten supper in the evening. He has a small treat at bedtime but rarely eats it until he wakes up. He isn't on any medication. He eats a dry food with a gravy. And plant watering - yes please :)

Dennis was an absolute dream, super friendly and extremely obedient, I trusted him very quickly and we became great friends! Sara and Chris were great with communication, instructions and support. The house is amazing - beautiful and practical with everything you’d need and more for a comfortable stay. With a safe driveway for cars and enclosed to keep Dennis safe. The area is accessible by car, with Shrewsbury only a 10 minute drive away. I’m looking forward to looking after Dennis in the future!

A thoroughly enjoyable stay with Dennis. Sara and Christian made me very welcome; house was comfortable and spacious with every facility one could wish for oneself and Dennis; super easy to keep clean and everything was to hand. Village was truly peaceful and local dog walks on the hill lovely providing Dennis with a perfect opportunity to let off steam! Highly recommend this sit.
