Sunny Florida home in college town with dog and cat

Introduction

We are a couple living in Gainesville, Florida and we have a baby, a small dog, and a cat. We are not originally from Florida and do not have family here. When we travel to visit family we need someone who can look after our pets while we are away.

Home & location

We live in a small single story house in a quiet neighborhood east of downtown Gainesville. The house has two bedrooms and one bathroom. Andrew loves to garden and we have a private fenced yard with hammock, outdoor eating area, a vegetable patch, an orchid collection, and tropical fruit trees including bananas, papaya, avocados, grapefruit, oranges, limes, and more. Gainesville is a college town (University of Florida) with a variety of options for restaurants, museums, etc. Our house is accessible by public transit (bus stop), which is just one block south of our house. One block north of our house is a public park with a large field and an Olympic sized outdoor public swimming pool. From our house it is approximately a one hour drive east to the sandy Atlantic coastal beaches and approximately a one hour drive west to the Gulf coastal area (mangroves, oysters, etc).

Responsibilities

Both the dog and the cat are easy, but the dog is very anxious and there might be some challenges associated with separation anxiety when we travel. The dog does not get along with the cat and they must be kept separated at all times (cat lives in the bedroom and has access to an outdoor catio through the bedroom window). We would want someone to feed both pets 2x/day (morning and evening), play with the dog outside in the fenced backyard, and clean the litter box several times a week. The dog gets anxiety medication (a pill) once per day. The pets can be left in unattended in the house during most of the day (approximately 9am-5pm). We might also have some requests related to the garden (e.g. watering plants), depending on the weather.

Sahale and Andrew were very welcoming and hospitable. They left us clear expectations and communications. Tank and Nutmeg were both extremely cuddly and lovable. Tank loved attention and his rubs. Nutmeg loved her time outside playing fetch. Sahale and Andrew’s home offered a quiet place to study while preparing for finals. We would recommend this lovely home to anyone.

Sahale and Andrew were very friendly and thorough with the instructions they gave me to take care of Nutmeg and Tank as well as the house. They truly went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed! Communication was great. Tank is a sweetie who loves playtime and cuddles. Nutmeg loves her walks and playtime in the backyard. The neighborhood is beautiful. I had the chance to chat with a lot of friendly locals and visit a few places nearby even though I did not have a car. Would highly recommend this sit to anyone!

We had a lovely time with Nutmeg and Tank. They both are very affectionate and Nutmeg is always game to go explore. Hubby and I ventured out everyday to discover new walks/hikes/activities around Gainsville. Sahale and Andrew are a very sweet young couple with a very quaint home. Their backyard is an oasis to relax in and sip a morning coffee. Communication was great with both.
