Southern Dog Hospitality

Introduction

After a career in Corporate America, I decided to take a leap of faith to pursue my passion in working with animals. I now work for the Humane Society of the United States and travel around North Carolina for my job. It is very rewarding to spend my days making the lives of animals better.

Home & location

We live in Downtown Raleigh. . .a short walk to the NC State Capitol, City Market, Moore Square, Transfer Co. Food Hall and hosts of coffee shops and restaurants. We are right around the corner from one of the trailheads for the Raleigh Greenway. North Carolina State University, Pullen Park and North Hills are a short drive away. The listing indicates you will need a car, but that depends on what you want to do. Most likely, I'll have my car with me, but we live in a very walkable location! If you have a car you will be able to park for free on the street. If I have my car with me, then there is a driveway. The bedroom for guests has a queen size bed and a private bathroom across the hall. I have a Nespresso coffee machine for those of you who enjoy morning espressos and coffee. We are a non-smoking home and prefer to have sitters who are non smokers as well.

Responsibilities

Taking care of Norman is the main task. Norman is a 3 year-old beagle who was one of the 4,000 beagles rescued from a Virginia research breeding facility . Norman is still getting used to the world outside a large scale breeding facility but has made major progress since July 2022 and gets more comfortable every day. He wears a GPS collar so we are able to track his location. I live just east of downtown Raleigh, NC. . .within walking distance of great restaurants, greenways and parks. My main concern is the health and well being of Norman. I'm not as concerned about how clean my house is when I return. If my dog is happy, content, healthy and have been cared for and looked after in my absence, then I consider it a successful sit.

Very much enjoyed watching Norman, sweet boy! The neighborhood was very close to the downtown area and great to take walks throughout the day. Gail was so kind and provided information prior to the sit! Gail was also very communicative throughout the stay if there was anything I needed.

We enjoyed watching Leo, George and Norman. The walking trail was delightful to take them on our daily walks. Leo and Norman are full of vigor. George is laid back except for feeding times. Read Gail's instructions and all will be good. Gail was welcoming and such a good mama to her furry family!

We really enjoyed meeting George,Leo, and Norman. They are all sweet dogs with different personalities. Gail was very communicative and made our time easier by outlining everything we needed to do. It felt very clear and if we had a question, her response always came quick. The dogs are on a great routine that they know well and so if you stick to this, the sit is a breeze! Leo will want to sleep with you and he is very soft and cuddly. Gail’s house is in a great spot to be central in Raleigh. We enjoyed walking the neighborhoods. The room was comfortable and the kitchen was great to cook in. I recommend this sit!

If you're an early riser, you'll definitely enjoy this house sit. Norman, George and Leo woke us up at 5am the first two mornings and graciously let us sleep in til 6am the last morning...LOL. All three are sweet pups but Leo was especially sweet and affectionate. The house is in a great location near downtown with lots of places to go within walking distance. The house is also spacious but very cozy, with a nice size fenced yard to take the pups out where Norman loved to do zoomies, and the oldest pup, George likes extra naps. Gail was very kind, welcoming, and provided us detailed instructions to care for her pups. We also greatly appreciated her sharing her produce delivery with us and thoroughly enjoyed her delicious Nespresso coffee every morning. Thanks so much Gail, George, Leo, and Norman for your hospitality.

Alison was an amazing sitter for Norman. She was kind, calm and warm in her interactions. I could tell when I left that Norman would warm up to her and I was right! She left the house in tip top condition including washing the sheets and making the bed. She is an excellent sitter and an amazing human. I'd love to have her back.

Amy was amazing and so attentive to my dogs needs. She took them on individual walks and provided them with all the love and snuggles. She was communicative, kind and even washed and folded all the linens. You and your animals will be so lucky if Amy applies for any of your sits. Thank you, Amy. You helped me to enjoy my weekend away without worry.

This was Tom and Starla's first zeewoi experience and were still getting used to how things work on this platform. They have the potential to be excellent house sitters if you leave clear instructions and set expectations. They were very flexible with this sit, even staying a few extra days when my plans changed. My dogs thoroughly enjoyed their daily walks and I appreciated their tidiness upon my return (they washed the sheets AND made the bed!).
