Southern Dog Hospitality

Introduction

After a career in Corporate America, I decided to take a leap of faith to pursue my passion in working with animals. I now work for the Humane Society of the United States and travel around North Carolina for my job. It is very rewarding to spend my days making the lives of animals better.

Home & location

We live in Downtown Raleigh. . .a short walk to the NC State Capitol, City Market, Moore Square, Transfer Co. Food Hall and hosts of coffee shops and restaurants. We are right around the corner from one of the trailheads for the Raleigh Greenway. North Carolina State University, Pullen Park and North Hills are a short drive away. The listing indicates you will need a car, but that depends on what you want to do. Most likely, I'll have my car with me, but we live in a very walkable location! If you have a car you will be able to park for free on the street. If I have my car with me, then there is a driveway. The bedroom for guests has a queen size bed and a private bathroom across the hall. I have a Nespresso coffee machine for those of you who enjoy morning espressos and coffee. We are a non-smoking home and prefer to have sitters who are non smokers as well.

Responsibilities

Taking care of Norman is the main task. Norman is a 3 year-old beagle who was one of the 4,000 beagles rescued from a Virginia research breeding facility . Norman is still getting used to the world outside a large scale breeding facility but has made major progress since July 2022 and gets more comfortable every day. He wears a GPS collar so we are able to track his location. I live just east of downtown Raleigh, NC. . .within walking distance of great restaurants, greenways and parks. My main concern is the health and well being of Norman. I'm not as concerned about how clean my house is when I return. If my dog is happy, content, healthy and have been cared for and looked after in my absence, then I consider it a successful sit.

We had a wonderful time house-sitting for Gail and watching after George and Leo. They are sweet doggies, very content to chill with you on the couch. Gail provided very clear instructions, which made the experience a breeze. We would happily do it again!

My pet sitting experience at Gail’s was great! Her sweet dogs, Leo and George were amazing and so loving. Gail’s house is in a prime location for downtown Raleigh activities and events. Gail left detailed instructions on how to care for the dogs, her contact info, the vet’s contact info and a list of local restaurants and sites to visit. If you get the opportunity to sit here, take it!

Gail provided us with great accommodations which allowed us to be within a short drive of all the local sites. Leo and George will provide you all the love you need as well. Make sure to reach out to Gail if you seek a slower pace with a couple of cuddle bugs!

Gail's dogs are a sweet bunch. Just before we arrived, her sweet Maude had started declining. She needed picking up to go outside as she had gotten weaker and had a few accidents inside due to icy/snow conditions. The boys kept us amused on walks, cozy on the couch and comfy in bed. Sending our love to the crew in Raleigh.

Alison was an amazing sitter for Norman. She was kind, calm and warm in her interactions. I could tell when I left that Norman would warm up to her and I was right! She left the house in tip top condition including washing the sheets and making the bed. She is an excellent sitter and an amazing human. I'd love to have her back.

Amy was amazing and so attentive to my dogs needs. She took them on individual walks and provided them with all the love and snuggles. She was communicative, kind and even washed and folded all the linens. You and your animals will be so lucky if Amy applies for any of your sits. Thank you, Amy. You helped me to enjoy my weekend away without worry.

This was Tom and Starla's first zeewoi experience and were still getting used to how things work on this platform. They have the potential to be excellent house sitters if you leave clear instructions and set expectations. They were very flexible with this sit, even staying a few extra days when my plans changed. My dogs thoroughly enjoyed their daily walks and I appreciated their tidiness upon my return (they washed the sheets AND made the bed!).
