A Few Weeks In Pennsylvania Dutch country near farm markets and also big towns!
Introduction
Hello, we are Patti and Larry. Larry is a retired Army colonel and I am an almost retired nurse midwife. We have enjoyed traveling for years, but always have the pets we leave home in our hearts and minds. Currently that means our 10 year old dog, Charlie.

We live on 10 acres of woods but only 1/2 mile from town and 25 minutes in either direction between Reading and Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with numerous restaurants, movie theaters, show venues, minor league ballparks and rinks. The home is a ranch style with a walk out lower level. The primary suite is on the main floor and there are 3 more bedrooms, a bathroom, and a sitting area on the lower level. You are welcome to the primary suite, though there are 3 queen size beds to choose from. We are on the edge of Pennsylvania Dutch country with Amish and Mennonite farms, markets, shops, and businesses within 1/2 hour drive. It is quiet and peaceful but only a mile to a 4 lane highway taking you to explore the area. Drive 45-60 minutes east to Valley Forge and Philadelphia. Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, entry to the Appalachian trail, and Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area provide nice hiking trails of various lengths. Hershey Park and Dorney Park and their associated water parks are each 1 hour away. We enjoy coffee and birds on the deck surrounded by tulip poplars.
Show more...Responsibilities
Charlie gets 2 good walks a day at a park a few miles away. Depending on the weather we usually walk a half mile to 1 mile each time. He eats morning and early evening. He goes out on the property 2-3 times a day just to urinate. He has a basket full of toys he loves. He is very good at catching well thrown frisbees at the park or up our driveway but we respect his age and only throw about 4-5 times, and not in hot weather. He is allowed on any furniture. House plants get watered once/week. We have 5 bird feeders on the deck. 4 of them get taken in each night because the local raccoons will happily raid and empty them if we leave them out. The hummingbird feeder (seasonal) just gets set in the kitchen sink. The tube feeder, thistle feeder, and suet get put in the garage. They all go out again in the morning whenever you get up. There is a house cleaner every other week.
