Idyllic country cottage with selection of adorable animals!

Introduction

My husband Graham and myself, Jackie, have been living up Glenisla for 25 years in a cottage converted by ourselves. We love the outdoors and country life and have a menagerie of animals living with us. With both of us having retired recently, we are hoping to spend time each year in Europe in our camper van, along with our dog, Barney. We are looking for someone to look after our remaining animals whilst we are away -our cat, 3 pygmy goats, 3 shetland ponies and an assortment of ducks and hens! We live in a most beautiful part of Scotland with walking, cycling and canoeing on the doorstep -ideal for anyone who enjoys the peace and quiet of the countryside.

Home & location

Our two bedroom cottage dates back to 1860 and has been lovingly restored by us into a comfortable home with wood burning stoves, an oak framed extension and a wonderful enclosed garden with outdoor seating area. Sitters would have the downstairs double bedroom and access to the whole cottage. The area is a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts with walking, climbing and cycling in the beautiful nearby glens of Glenisla, Glen Prosen and Glen Clova. The nearest town, Alyth, is 6 miles away. The animals all live in paddocks in our grounds, literally a stone's throw from the house. For those looking for culture, the cities of Dundee and Perth are about 40 minutes drive away with Edinburgh an hour's drive.

Responsibilities

The ponies get a small feed of Happy Hoof twice a day and access to clean water which is carried across from the house in a 10 litre carrier, a distance of about 100 metres. They will not require haynets. The goats are similarly fed twice a day with a grain mix and their hayrick filled. All feed is kept in a secure area close to the animals enclosures. Again fresh water every day from a tap in the goat enclosure. The hens and ducks live with the goats and have a feeder which requires filling every week. The ducks bath requires filling from a tap. Ernie the cat has constant access to dried food and water in the kitchen. We also have a Polytunnel which, although complete with self watering system, may need doors opening and closing to help control the temperature. Any occupants are welcome to help themselves to any veg! Hanging baskets in the garden may require watering, along with house plants.

You would be very lucky to be selected for this sit! Jackie and Graham have thought of everything to make their, largely self built house, very comfortable and homely. It's a very rural setting with horses, goats and chickens nestled in forest and moorland, with Earnie the polydactyl cat keeping you company in the cottage.I loved it, went off exploring woods, hills in my spare time..made bread in the aga, met artists in Alyth, read books my fire...very cool. Jackie and Graham are great communicators and very organised with a good network of people to call on should you need any help. Go for it😁
