Tony and Zoe

Introduction

We live just outside the beautiful village of Thornhill in Dumfries and Galloway with stunning views of the surrounding hills. The dogs are 2 girls and 1 boy, and they have the benefit lots of walks straight out of the gate to forests, hills, and rivers. They are all lead trained and will come back to the whistle and stay at the side of the road whilst cars pass. Fin is our boy, he is 10 years old and has arthritis in his shoulder, so his walking is limited to fairly slow walks of no more than 20 minutes. He’s very biddable and loves everyone. We keep him away from other dogs as he’s not neutered and we don’t want him to get into a tussle with another male and hurt his shoulders. Lily is also 10, she’s little miss goodie goodie , she rarely puts a foot wrong and likes to be on her own quite a bit. Very easy with other dogs, will carry her lead and stay with us. Nina is 6 and is a bit of an anxious unpredictable girl. She’s not good with other dogs so we walk her in quiet places, which isn’t difficult.

Home & location

We have 2 bedroom passive Haus on one level. Our house sitter would have a double bed, and a bathroom and the living/dinning/kitchen area. We have a large garden with vegetables growing in season. There are open views to the countryside. You can walk from the house in the surrounding fields if there is no stock in them, and also up the road to forest tracks.

Responsibilities

We would ask that the dogs are taken out in the lane for a pee first thing (around 7.30am) followed by breakfast, then 20 minute walk along the road or in the field if there’s no stock. The girls can go further if you wish. They like a quick trip round the garden at lunch time for a pee. Then we walk them for 30-60 minutes around 3.30/4.00 again the girls can go for a longer walk. Tea time is about 4.30. They will then lounge in their beds until pee time at 9.00/10.00 in the lane or along the road , then settle easily for the night. They are all accustomed to going out in the car for the day or to walks further away, and will travel easily. We will ask that walking on the road should be on the lead. We appreciate that it’s a little complicated to give 1 a short walk and 2 longer walks, and hope that you can accommodate Fin’s needs.

We had a fabulous time sitting Finn and Nina for Zoe and Tony. We arrived the night before and spent a lovely evening chatting and learning about the dogs' routine. The home is beautiful and warm and surrounded by rolling countryside. You can walk both dogs from the front door, or take Nina in the car to walks further afield. Finn's happy to trot along on the shorter walks but does need to rest -he's amazing for 11 years old! Both dogs are very well behaved, affectionate and great company. We loved our sit and would love to come back for longer next time!

What a gorgeous, well behaved, easy to care for, little pack of three glossy black labs in an idyllic setting. Zoe & Tony's home is pretty unique and is a delight, and privilege to stay in; it's quite remote up on the hillside with a view to die for but it's just a few km walk to the nearest village where there is everything that you might need, including a great dog friendly cafe, Thomas Tosh. The best part for me was that you can walk directly from the house into the most wonderful forest, I spent most of my time there, with Fin, Lily & Nina, where you hardly see anyone. You will need wellies! and you definitely need to be ok with your own company & have a reliable car or you may feel a bit isolated. I stayed in the winter and visited the beautiful Drumlanrig Castle, popped into Dumfries, drove up to historical Sanquir and walked up on the edge of the Lowthers during my stay.

Zoe and Tony were lovely hosts. Their home is beautiful and the surrounding area is wonderful to explore. Nina, Lily and Finn were also lovely hosts! All three dogs are incredibly well behaved and friendly. This was our first sit and the whole experience from start to finish was straightforward, pleasant and fun.

Excellent time spent in the Thornhill countryside, caring for three lovely, loyal, well behaved dogs; Fin, Lilly and Nina. You can tell these dogs have been loved and cared for. The house has every comfort from a great kitchen to lovely bath and pretty views of Thornhill. Not to mention an incredible selection of books on science and philosophy! There are things to see all over the area. Zoe and Tony are great people to know. If you get a chance to chat, I highly suggest taking up the invitation. So glad we met and welcome the opportunity to sit in the future.

Lily, Nina, and Fin are such loving sweethearts! I enjoyed taking care of them and all the puppy snuggles I got. They are so well trained and easy to walk all together. I’ll miss them! Tony and Zoe are great! I’m so happy we met. It was like chatting with old friends :) They were super friendly and helpful. They had everything organized and ready for me. Plus Zoe cooks up a delicious meal. Their home is beautiful and comfy. Everywhere you look are beautiful views of the hills. There are so many places to walk the dogs. I would suggest having a car to make more out of your trip but even if you don’t, it’s an easy walk to Thornhill with access to buses and Morton Castle is a good walk to take the dogs. I’m glad I got a chance to pet sit for this family.
