House sitter to look after dogs, cat and rabbit in Scotland.

Introduction

Hi! We are Hamish and Emma and we are looking for a trusted housesitter to look after our house in Fife. We have been using trusted housesitters for the last 8 years or so with great success and housesitters seem to enjoy being here too. We used to live in France (you’ll see some reviews for our house there) and then moved back to Scotland in 2017. We live about 45 minutes north of Edinburgh in the beautiful countryside of NE Fife and are about 20 minutes from St Andrew’s. We have 2 dogs, and a cat.

Home & location

Our house is a historical old house situated in NE Fife. We are about 45 minutes from Edinburgh and 20 minutes from St Andrews. The area is rural but it is located 6 miles from a town which all amenities including supermarkets, bars, restaurants and garages. The house is a traditional house set in a large garden and surrounded by fields. The kitchen has an Everhot (a bit like an Aga) and sitting room has a wood burner. You will need your own car, as we are rural. Only non smokers please.

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities would be feeding the pets, walking the dogs and watering plants in the summer. The cat is pretty simple he just need to be given a bit of love, attention and fed. The dogs are young and energetic, so like quite a bit of exercise, especially Treacle our Springer Spaniel. So this house sit position would suit someone who is fit and is happy to go for a long walk each day.

We absolutely loved our house sit at Emma and Hamish’s! We didn’t want to leave. From the outset, communication was fantastic prior to and during the house sit. We arrived the day before and got the grand tour around the property and given all necessary instructions and details as well lots of recommendations of things to do in the area. As for the animals, we adored Maple, Treacle and Nettle. The dogs are such characters and were so fun. They love nothing more than a good walk around the crops and then snoozing on/beside you, or following you around the garden. Maple is cheeky (in the best way) and Treacle is so sweet. They are real people dogs and we miss them already! Nettle the cat, whilst a bit more shy, was very friendly, loved a scratch and could be quite chatty, especially around meal times. There is lots to do around the area, quaint villages, St Andrews, as well as fantastic hikes up the Lomonds. We ended up spending most of our time relaxing/hanging out with the dogs but the odd outing was great, the best part arriving home to two very excited pooches. Hamish’s brother who lives nearby popped in a couple of times and even had us over for dinner on our last evening, which was very kind and a lot of fun! Overall, we couldn’t recommend Emma and Hamish’s more and cannot fault our stay. We had the best time.

We had the most incredible time staying at Hamish and Emma’s beautiful house, Barham. Right from the start, they were welcoming and warm, cooking us a delicious dinner before they left. They generously let us forage the veggie patch for fresh produce (so much that we were enjoying zucchini’s, spinach and lettuce with nearly every meal!) We felt very lucky to have stayed here. Barham is an amazing property with so much history. Nettle (cat) is very self sufficient but also loved a good scratch! Maple and Treacle are both gorgeous, playful and cuddly dogs - it was hard saying goodbye to them all at the end. We would highly recommend house sitting for Emma and Hamish in this very special part of the world. Thanks for everything!

We had a fantastic time looking after Hamish & Emma's remarkable house, delightful pets, plants and vegetable garden. We enjoyed being in the country with easy access to some beautiful walks. We left a little bit of our hearts with the delightful Maple and Treacle, Nettle was a charming mixture of self reliant and a purring cuddle-seeking feline, and Leslie was no bother at all! It was great to have fresh vegetables from the garden, and Cupar or Ladybank are an easy drive for supplies. We also spent some time further afield in Fife, Dundee and Queensferry. Communication both before and during the house sit was easy and timely. Thankyou for trusting us.

It was a great honor to take care of this beautiful Gers property. Le Mirail is surrounded by fields and woodland with amazing views. A truly magical place to be. We really enjoyed our stay, exploring the area with its picturesque villages and watching the changing colors of autumn leaves during our hiking tours. Mowing the grass and raking tons of leaves were good exercise for us and welcome to burn some calories from the wonderful gersoise food. It was a great experience to stay in the unique rustic cottage from the 17th century and we loved the log burner during the chilly evenings. Thank you, Emma and Hamish, for trusting us. It was a great pleasure meeting you both in person. We hope to stay in contact for further sits maybe also in Scotland.
