Rural cottage with smallholding
Introduction
Husband and I are both retired apart from running a small holiday let. We have quite a few animals and therefore rarely get the chance to go away. We want to see more of our friends and family in the coming year and need an animal lover to hold the fort for us! Our daughter is getting married this September (2024) hence the request for our next sit so applications gratefully received! We are also happy to split this sit too. We are very rural so anyone coming would need a car as we do not have public transport and the shops are a car drive away.

We are in a beautiful rural setting but do have a local pub and the village of Spilsby is about 4 miles away which has a small supermarket. We are at the base of the Lincolnshire Wolds and there are some wonderful beaches about half an hour away by car. The seaside town of Skegness is about 20 minutes away and historic Lincoln about 40 minutes.

Each morning the ducks and chickens will need to be let out and fed as will the guinea pigs and rabbit. For stays over 4 days the ducks and guinea pigs will need cleaning out and the chickens every 10 days. The ducks water and feed tray need cleaning daily. The cats are fed on demand and the dogs twice a day. We have a large garden and there may be some watering but once again this is dependent on the time of year.

We arrived the night before Steve and Claire went away, which gave us time to see the bedtime routine for the rabbits, ducks and chickens. The dogs happily come to bed with you and the cats sleep for hours anyway! All very relaxed! Claire cooked us a lovely meal after we'd been for a visit to their local pub. A very enjoyable first evening and a good night's sleep before getting up to learn the animals morning routine. All very organised and well explained. First and foremost this is a lovely sit in a comfortable home with happy animals. The dogs are so loving. They live for their walks, ball throws, cuddles and treats. Walks from the door are lovely. The beaches nearby are vast. The cats, bunnies and birds are easy to care for and once the bunnies and birds are let out and fed in the morning they are happy until bedtime. Nice fresh eggs from the chickens and ducks are good. The bunnies have a lovely plate of apple and veg in the afternoon. The cats are fed wet food on demand but always have dried food available if required. Instructions and all other information were left for us. The dogs are very relaxed, happy to be around you and play in the enclosed huge garden until it's walk time. Their recall is great when off lead. Claire was always at hand to answer any queries. We had very mixed weather from hot sunny days where we could enjoy the beautiful garden to windy wet days where we just cosied up in the comfy lounge. Shops are a drive away, but the supermarkets do deliver. We really enjoyed this sit and hoping all goes well so we can return in 2025. Thank you for having us to stay. Gill and Charlie

We had a lovely sit, with George, Henry and Daisy , Minky and GC, and various other friendly rabbits, ducks and chickens! Claire and Steve were very welcoming and generous with a beautiful meal on arrival, and very detailed instructions. It is a lovely area and beautiful house and was a great sit! Thankyou!

We thoroughly enjoyed our sit at stickford. Clare and Steve were extremely welcoming preparing a meal and showing us around and introducing us to the three dogs, 2 cats, rabbits, ducks and hens. The village is beautiful and very close to the coast. We loved the walks every morning through the village and fields and the dogs loved it. Thank you Clare and Steve for being wonderful hosts and giving us the opportunity to care for your beautiful home and loving pets

Claire and Steve were wonderful hosts and had a lovely warm home in the beautiful English country side. They took their three dogs on vacay with them so I only had to watch the two gorgeous Persian cats, 3 ducks, 9 chickens and three rabbits. A very easy sit! They were very gracious to leave me a car to get around in since I was pretty isolated in the country. This was a lovely sit and would definitely return if they need another sit. I also appreciated that they recommended me to their friends, but I was already scheduled for another sit. Highly recommend Claire and Steve for their next pet sit.
