We are Deb and Axel, a retired couple, we live in a rural village in Coimbra district Portugal, within 20-30 minutes of larger towns and 50 minutes drive from Coimbra. We have an 8 yr old dog, she is a pit/amstaff mix named Rosie, she is very friendly and quite a character!

Our home is in a quiet area with outstanding views. The main house is a 1 bedroom with an upstairs lounge and balcony to enjoy that view. There is also a guesthouse that has kitchen and bathroom and a balcony too. We are surrounded by open fields and eucalyptus forest. Located about 5 minutes drive to Sao Pedro where there is a supermarket, cafe, butcher, pharmacy and post office. The sitter could stay in either house. There is tv, high speed internet in the main house, the guesthouse has WiFi and tv with free channels only.

Rosie will need to go out for a walk each day, usually about an hour, and enjoys company in the garden. She eats once a day but has treats and biscuits anytime. She does not need medication. Rosie is allowed on furniture and will likely sleep with you on the bed. She gets along with other dogs well. If you enjoy gardening feel free! Not required but very much appreciated. We live in a small village with paved roads but a little narrow in places. For walking there are trails through the eucalyptus woods that you can walk to from the house, some are a little hilly fyi! You will need a car because of our rural location. There are several places we take Rosie that are easy to get to by car and walk, they are not far away.

Deborah and Axel are lovely hosts. They were very communicative via Trusted Housesitters web email and WhatsApp. Their handover notes and itinerary of their trip was comprehensive for both Rosie and the house. We arrived the day before their departure to be shown around and get introduced to Rosie. The cottage we stayed in is separate from the main house. It is cosy clean with everything we needed. The view from the living area is wonderful looking over the forest. From the front there are more stunning views looking towards the Serra de Estrella mountain range. At the time of our stay there were some fantastic sunsets and snow on the mountains. The village has a cafe, which on this sit didn’t use, as the cottage has a coffee machine. Having your own transport is essential as there are no shops in the village. However, a bread van does come and I think also other services (groceries). But we didn’t use those on this sit. It’s not too far to Sao Pedra de Alva, which has a small supermarket, chemist, banks etc. The roads to the sit are tarmac and was suitable for our car which is quite low, so would suit all vehicles. Rosie is the star of the show. She welcomed us without any hesitation when we arrived. She has a beautiful temperament and is a joy to be around. She loves to walk and with the aid of a tracker, loves to walk and explore the forests with you. She was content to stay in the cottage with us, even before her owners left the following morning. She gave no sign of separation worries and was a delight. She has a beautiful soul and we miss her. Her expressive eyes, cuddles in the evening, conversations when wanting to go out and when she is in a playful mood it is such fun. It really was such a pleasure, we didn’t want it to end. We are highly recommending this sit and would certainly return again if given the opportunity!

We had a great time in Sao Pedro de Alva. A original Portuguese Village with all you need. Very friendly neighborhood and lot of forest and lakes for nice walks with Rosie. Rosie is so easy going and very lovely. Living in the apartment with an amazing view and all you need to have a good time. We used the Netflix in the main house which was great. Deborah has taken us around to see the area and shown us all important things in the house and garden. Thanks for the opportunity to visit this part of Portugal and the good time we had with Rosie. Really miss her.

This was an amazing sit with friendly neighbors. We had the privilege of waking up every morning to a stunning view of the valley and its mist. Surrounded by a beautiful blossoming orange tree, flowers and butterfly's. Rosie the queen of the house was quite the lady, very obedient and was delightful to take on long walks. Deborah and Axel were excellent host, very communicative and left us a few goodies in the apartment upon our arrival. Highly recommend this wonderful house sit to other members. Thank you Deborah & Axel & Rosie for your trust. I & G

This sit is amazing! Rosie is the easiest dog to be around and will have you falling in love with her in no time. She walks easily off lead, is a great companion, and is really well-trained. I miss her already. The sit location is paradise in itself, with stunning views from the balcony, your own private place with a fireplace and super easy-going lovely hosts - I honestly could not have asked for a better sit. Oh and did I mention there are heaps of walks around the lake and local bushland that are stunning! Thank you Deb & Axel and my love to Rosie who hopefully I will sit again soon!

Jessica was quick to put us at ease about leaving our dog in the care of her and her young son. She even drove us to and back from the airport for our trip! She took care of Rosie very well, and kept in touch with photos and updates. Our home was well taken care of. We would not hesitate to have Jessica and Parker take care of our needs again. Thank you!
