Two Miles to Beach
Introduction
Hello. We are Elizabeth and Mark and a cat named Bogie. We are retired and living in the Outer Bank of North Carolina, USA, just two miles from the Atlantic ocean and beautiful beaches. Our passions are volunteering locally, traveling, and being outdoors as much as possible. Bogie is an indoor/outdoor cat. Trusted House Sitters will provide us with peace of mind that Bogie stays in a familiar setting when we travel.

Our home is a stand alone single family, two story, three bedroom, with a detached garage. It sits on a half acre corner lot in the Martins Point subdivision in Kitty Hawk, NC. The subdivision is peaceful and is restricted to only residents and their guests. There is no thru traffic. Amenities include air conditioning, washer/dryer, dishwasher, refrigerator, internet, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, back deck, front porch, vegetable garden (you are welcome to pick whatever is ripe). The master bedroom and master bath are downstairs. Guest bedrooms are upstairs. Shopping (grocery, places to eat, pharmacy) is one mile east, and the beach is two miles east. Both are connected via a bike trail. You are welcome to use our beach chairs, beach umbrella, and beach towels. We have a cart that is pulled behind the bike to carry stuff if needed. Our subdivision has a free boat ramp and picnic pavilion on the Currituck Sound. The beach is always free and open. The Wright Brothers National Memorial is about seven miles south. Historic lighthouses dot the Outer Banks coast both north and south of Kitty Hawk.

Bogie is an indoor/outdoor cat. Normally, he likes to stay outside during the day, and come inside at night. Please feed him in the morning and at night. And if you are around at lunch time, please feed him a snack. Please refresh his indoor water dish every other day and outside dish every 3 or 4 days. If you would like to spend a day and night away from the house, no problem, simply set-up his auto feeder and place it in the garage. He has access to the garage via a window 24 hours a day. He prefers doing his business outside, but on occasion he will use his indoor litter box. Please water the indoor plants (about 7 or 8) twice a week.

If you are looking for a housesit in the outer banks, this is an excellent opportunity in a lovely gated community close to everything! We had an enjoyable evening with Elizabeth prior to her departure the following morning, however, Mark had already left and sadly we were unable to meet him. Elizabeth was thorough regarding our responsibilities concerning their cat Bogie and what needed to be done on the property in their absence. The house is beautiful and comfortable and the property is lovely as well, with great proximity to beaches, restaurants and all the beauty the outer banks has to offer. Bogie was quite shy at the beginning and spent most of his time outdoors. Once he warmed up to us, he was quite friendly and enjoyable. At times he seemed to prefer the outdoors but still liked being petted and chilling with us in the evenings. Bogie makes it clear when it is time to go out - he stands at the slider in the living room and cries - he's the boss and lets you know what he wants! The property is quite large with numerous gardens and potted plants. This proved to be somewhat challenging during our stay as there was a Carolina heat wave and the gardens needed extra attention. Communication was great via text - Elizabeth was quick to respond when necessary, which is always appreciated. We truly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to return to Mark & Elizabeth's home for a housesit in the future. We would gladly welcome the opportunity to bond with Bogie again.

If you’re considering applying for this sit - run, don’t walk!! We were so lucky to care for adorable little Bogie in Mark and Elizabeth’s idyllic home. Their neighbourhood is absolutely beautiful, their neighbours were very kind, and we were lucky enough to get a tour of the surrounding area from Elizabeth upon our arrival. Elizabeth was extremely communicative, helpful, and thoughtful - we even received a book that was reminded us of Bogie’s journey. The house was extremely clean, spacious, and comfortable - Elizabeth and Mark were very generous and welcoming! Now - we have loved all the pets that we sat for, but Bogie truly stole our hearts in a special way! He was very tentative and shy at first - he wouldn’t eat, or sleep inside, and seemed distressed whenever he was indoors. He was never vicious, and he let us pick him up, but he wanted his space. It took about a week or so for him to warm up to us, but once he did, he was extremely present, talkative, and cuddly - he’d even jump right up on our laps for a nap! If you’re a true cat lover, you will be so excited when Bogie trusts you - it was very sad to say goodbye. We would love to sit for Elizabeth and Mark, anytime! Thank you again for everything!
