Nature Lover’s Paradise.. but close to all amenities

Introduction

I am retired and have a lot of opportunity to join my husband on his business trips. My husband and I like to travel in general and have a vacation house in Italy beside a river, which is perfect for the dogs, so we take them and drive there. Our kids all have homes and families of their own and we don’t want to impose asking them to dog sit. The dog hotel we have been using for years is great and the dogs are happy there, But more and more we have trouble with availability. We speak English and German

Home & location

We have a beautiful Canadian log home right at the edge of the forest beside a hiking/biking trail. The view is spectacular. It includes 2 guest bedrooms with bathroom, 3 additional bathrooms, a fenced garden with several outdoor seating areas, an outdoor kitchen with every kind of grill, outdoor and indoor fireplaces. There are 2 hotel/restaurants within easy walking distance and both offer spa treatments. There are at least 7 restaurants in our small town. Also available are mini golf, horseback riding, horse and wagon rides, trails galore. Of course there are all the necessities like a supermarket, pharmacy, doctor, bakeries, butcher, etc. We have two E-bikes that our pet sitter is welcome to use.

Responsibilities

The dogs go walking in the woods by our house in the morning before their breakfast. Missy doesn’t like to poo without a walk. A second walk in the afternoon or early evening, whenever the sitter wants. Missy had a pancreas problem in the past and stays very healthy by having 3 meals a day at 8:00, 14:00, and 20:00. Gracie has no problems but eats on the same schedule. For MISSY, Two meals are canned meat with vegetables that I cook and keep in fridge. Both dogs eat raw meat meal at lunch. (Just cut open package and put in a bowl and break it up a bit) GRACIE gets one level scoop of dry food with warm water on it for breakfast. On a two week stay, I might need some plants watered. A cleaning lady comes on Fridays.

We had amazing 10 days dog-sitting Missy and Gracie. We miss them a lot! ❤️ They are two beautiful, incredibly sweet high-energy, and affectionate dogs. We enjoyed walking in the woods with them, playing in the garden and cuddling during relaxing times 🐶 The Canadian log home was stunning and the location was absolutely breathtaking - right on the edge of a vast forest, with a hiking/biking trail right at the doorstep. The view from the house was simply spectacular, and the woods offered endless opportunities for exploration with our furry companions. The house itself was spacious and cosy. The owners did an excellent job designing and decorating it, and it felt super comfortable. Sheryl and Allan were extremely kind 🙏🏻 they even picked us up from the train station, invited us for dinner and drove us back at the end of the sit. We were also in contact during their vacation. We have definitely appreciated every single moment from start to end. While shops are nearby, the location is quite secluded, so come prepared to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. Overall, this was an unforgettable experience. We never wanted to leave! And we can’t wait to sit for them again!

Have you ever dreamed of living in a log cabin home made of Canadian cedar? This is your lucky chance! Not only is the home cozy and comfortable, the two large dogs were a delight to look after. The older one, Missy, is affectionate in a dignified, wise way. She patiently and quietly stood when I told her that we would go for a walk and calmly would wait for me to put on her leash. Missie likes hip massages and will turn her back to you when she is wants her massage. Young Gracie, while just as affectionate, was a bubbly bundle of joy who could not wait to get into the woods behind the house to explore and play. She loves her belly rubs. Both girls had exceptional manners thanks to super trainer Alan. Alan took me on a few walks with the girls through the woods and taught me the various dog commands. Missie and Gracie would always follow commands 'come around', 'Fuss', 'komm her' and others to a tee. If only all my housesit dogs were this well trained! Missie and Gracie love their daily 'Easter egg' hunt and would remind me when they thought it was time to play and I had not prepared the game yet. Missie will even bring you the emptied dog food bowls all the way to the dishwasher! I tried to teach Gracie but was not successful. One of my favorite past times was walking the dogs through the forest. I would let the girls choose the path. Gracie loved being the leader. She would constantly look over her shoulder to make sure we were all following correctly :-). Most of the time we had the entire forest to ourselves. The few times we encountered other people and dogs, Missy and Gracie immediately came when I called them. We often came across deer and here too the girls were very attentive to me and would not chase. Alan and Sheryl are a very sweet couple. They showed me all the ropes - how to feed the dogs, where to find their food, how to separate the garbage (always an involved task in Germany), how to maintain the s*** hill. If you get a chance ask them about how they met and what happened next. A heart-warming love story. They were very kind to drop off my son at the train station at an unearthly early hour when Alan was taking Sheryl and their son to the airport in Frankfurt. If you are lucky enough to be chosen for this housesit, you will take home sweet memories of two delightful dogs and a most pleasant housesit.
