Labrador love at the Castle

Introduction

We are a small castle in the countryside with two labradors. We do travel occasionally and need a sitter to keep watch and care of the pups and the home. It is a comfortable space that feels like home. As it is a small castle, there are always projects going on in the house. Currently the main kitchen is being redone so we are using the smaller second kitchen. No works will be taking place during your stay.

Responsibilities

The dogs like to sit with you and watch tv and play with you. They need to be fed twice a day and given water whenever the bowl is low. They cannot be allowed to run loose in the park as there are a couple sneaky exit points so you must walk them several times a day as well as taking them out first thing in the morning and last thing in the day. As far as the house just basically has pick up and clean up after yourself, and if you’re bored you can weed if you like! The pups are strong, so you must be able to control them physically!

We cared for 2 weeks for Bonnie and David's Labradors in their striking castle "La Grande Couture". We met Bonnie on her departure day and she gave us very clear guidance on the do's and don't-s for our stay. Charlie and Bella are both very large and strong dogs but also very loving indeed: Bella wanted to be right next to us all the time, and whilst Charlie took a more measured approach, she kept a keen eye on our proceedings to make sure she wouldn't miss out on anything and she loved to be fuzzed over, grunting in appreciation. As the dogs did not like to be left alone at the castle, we worked several, enjoyable, days in the garden and made only a few excursions (without them) to the stunning Loire castles in the vicinity. Staying in a real castle (already referenced in the 12th century by the Abbey of Cormery) with 2 very character full Labradors was a thoroughly enjoyable and unforgettable experience!

We really enjoyed our sit with Bella and Charlie. They are typical labradors, friendly and loyal. Lovely quiet garden for walks. Bonnie made us feel very welcome in her beautiful home. Great communication and hospitality. We miss Bella and Charlie already!

Bonnie very kindly introduced us to her lovely Labs, Bella & Charlie are very intelligent and loving sisters with big hearts and excellent communication skills. You are never left guessing with them! Also, they are polite, they listen to you and when making requests it's one simple bark, or a series only to make sure you can hear them from wherever they are in the castle. It felt like we were staying with well-behaved children instead of large dogs! Bonnie treated us as though we were staying at a well-furnished B&B in the beautiful countryside, near the exceptional town of Tours and the charming village of Loches.
