Quiet country retreat on the water
Introduction
We are a retired couple enjoying the quiet countryside and particularly the water sports here, adjacent to the Chesapeake Bay. We have decided we would like to get back to traveling a bit. But during Covid times, we adopted two sweet little stray kittens. One was enough, but last year a little, starving black kitten came calling and we couldn't say no. So they are both comfortably living in the house and making it hard for us to get away for long. We're hoping to find folks who would enjoy a getaway and the company of the little girls.

Our home is located on the waterfront of a tributary to the Chesapeake Bay. It is ideally located to enjoy watersports of all kinds. The neighborhood is rural but with nearby neighbors and beautiful countryside and a small village nearby. We have several nice restaurants a few minutes away and many more within a 30 minute drive. There are opportunities for walking, biking, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding and more. The house was fully renovated and modernized in 2017, with open plan spaces and views of the water and woods from every room. A cozy library with a pool table is ideal for relaxing. You can kayak or paddle board from our private dock, or enjoy views of the creek from the large deck and screened porch.

We're retired, so we tend to feed the cats several times per day. But if you are out for the day, morning and dinner time, with a bit more at bedtime, is fine. We feed wet canned food, but keep a small dish of kibble out for them. You would need to freshen the water bowls every day, as well as clean the two litter boxes. They are both healthy and no meds are required. We have a few indoor plants that require regular watering, not every day. There may be a few on the deck or front porch, depending on the season. Other than that, we only ask that you do basic housekeeping and keep the house nice.

Rex and Amy were fantastic and very welcoming. I met with them before the sit, thoroughly reviewed the instructions which were very complete and the cat personalities were as they described. The house is beautiful and the location on Healy Creek was spectacular. Maisie likes to go onto the screened porch and will follow you around or be near you, but, she wants only a couple of pets at a time. Midnight comes out in the evening and morning first thing but does like her pets. Great sit and would do again.

We spent a month at Rex and Amy's house caring for their two cats, Maisey and Midnight. The house is spacious and comfortable and is situated on the water in a beautiful part of Tidewater Virginia. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there even though the weather didn't cooperate. Maisey and Midnight took a few days to warm up to us but then became our best friends. They have very different characters; Maisey is very vocal while Midnight is quiet. Both cats hung out with us a lot during their waking hours and would sleep with us, either on or near our bed. Rex and Amy left very detailed instructions on all aspects of the house and pet care and communication was excellent. All our questions were met with an immediate response. The house is fully equipped and we were able to get along very comfortably during our stay. We highly recommend Rex and Amy's and would be happy to come back here to sit for them in the future.

Rex and Amy couldn’t have been more gracious and welcoming hosts. Their beautifully appointed home with a spacious gourmet kitchen and all upgraded amenities was nestled in the trees on an expansive waterfront property with spectacular views from any window of the house. It was a great location for walking around the quiet tree lined neighborhood, enjoying their large deck with hot tub, paddling around in kayaks from their private dock, reading in the shade of their comfortable and inviting screened-in porch, or just being entertained by their two very sweet kitties, Maisie and Midnight. You could tell these kitties are very loved, and we certainly enjoyed caring for them, as well. They couldn’t have been easier to care for, and kept us entertained with their distinct and delightful personalities. Rex and Amy left us great instructions for their care, as well as gave us a great orientation on their home upon our arrival. If you have an opportunity to sit for Maisie and Midnight in this beautiful home, which is close to quaint, but active Chesapeake Bay communities, where boats outnumber the population, don't pass it up!

Unbelievable hosts! Unbelievable home! Unbelievable kitties! Unbelievable setting! This was by far one of our most enjoyable pet sits. Rex and Amy made us feel comfortable from the moment they accepted our application. They have a beautiful, well thought out home with expansive views. The pictures don’t do it justice. Maisie and Midnight are a breeze to care for. Maisie is social, but a tad reserved with strangers. Midnight is hilarious once you earn her trust. Sweet girls and easy care instructions. If given the opportunity, don’t hesitate to take this sit. You won’t believe how serene it feels sitting at the end of the dock watching the water flow by!
