Cornwall - Spaniel/Lab cross seeks companion for fun walks
Introduction
We are 'almost' retired (well, Peter is fully retired, he was a Police Inspector, and Beverley retired as an NHS Matron 3 years ago but is now working again part time as a Registrar for Marriages) and we are perfectly placed to enjoy walks in the country or the coast and its beautiful beaches. Cornwall is full of brilliant places to visit although you do need a car to get to most of them. We have a couple of trips planned this year where we can't take our lovely Ziggy and whilst he's never seemed too bothered going into kennels, his behaviour usually needs some corrections when he comes out. We think he just doesn't get quite enough stimulation or individual attention and he would probably be happier in his own home. We also have fish in a garden pond to feed and plants to be watered. We do love music festivals and although we weren't successful in getting Glastonbury Festival this year we have booked another one instead in early July. We'd love to know that Ziggy is well cared for and to offer someone a place to stay in this beautiful part of the country. On our return date we expect to arrive home late afternoon. Happy for a sitter to arrive a day earlier/leave a day later if that helps with travel arrangements etc

We enjoy a semi-rural location set within Cornwall's historic tin mining district that is now a World Heritage Site. We are at the start of the village of Troon, just under one mile from Camborne Railway Station which is on the mainline Penzance to London Paddington rail service. There are varied and interesting walks accessible by foot from our house (check out the 'Great Flat Lode') and a woods. King Edward Mining Museum is just down the road where you can also find the Croust Hut which does really good coffees cakes, breakfasts and lunches (every weekend in winter and every day during summer). We are a short drive from the coast with beaches such as Portreath, Gwithian and Hayle all within 5-8 miles. Our semi-detached three bedroom house is double glazed throughout and has gas central heating. The lounge, with open plan oak staircase leading upstairs, has a log burner and 48" smart TV. There is a separate dining room but we usually eat at the breakfast bar in the kitchen. The kitchen has an electric range cooker with induction hob, a dishwasher and all usual equipment. The kitchen leads into a large conservatory with two sofas and a further 42" TV. There is a utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and downstairs loo. The conservatory leads out to the back garden which is secluded. The back garden is south facing and sunny, and is paved with pots of flowers and a large raised fish pond. This then leads to a private parking area at the rear. You will have use of a front and back double bedroom. The upstairs landing has a comfortable reading area with far reaching views to Carn Brea. The village of Troon has a small supermarket/post office, and a small Boots pharmacy whilst the village of Beacon has a shop, a butchers selling local meat, and a good fish and chip shop. Both villages are within walking distance of our house. The front door has an Ring doorbell and there is a further camera out in the parking area. If you want to go further than the local vicinity and explore Cornwall however you would need a car.

Primarily being a companion and carer of Ziggy. Ziggy is a loveable, good natured, funny, black working cocker spaniel/working labrador cross. He might look like a small labrador but he's a spaniel at heart! A real softie who loves attention and cuddles. And playing. He loves his walks off lead, has good recall and is food driven (unless there is a ball involved in which case he's not interested in food). He is happy to just walk locally or go off on adventures. He's on a lead until we get to a footpath or a field where he can go off lead. He's playful and friendly with other dogs and is generally the submissive one. At minimum a walk of 45 mins once a day will suffice although very often he does get two walks a day. And he'd be very happy with a 2 hour walk on some days. He loves the beach and the towans at Gwithian and Hayle although we are careful not to walk along the cliff edge as he's bouncy and fast and sadly every year we hear of dogs plunging off the cliffs. We can explain where the good walks are. He's not on any medication and doesn't need any special grooming. If he's been in seawater or muddy water then he will submit to a gentle hose down (and even, reluctantly, lift each leg in turn to help you). He's fed twice a day. If we walk him early then he has breakfast after his walk which could be anytime between 8am-10am depending on how early we get out and how long we stay out. If he doesn't have an early walk then he has breakfast at 8am and then waits up to 2 hours before anything too energetic. His evening meal is about 6pm. Can be a bit later, we are not to the minute and he's flexible. He's used to us being up in the evenings until 10.30pm-midnight before we say goodnight to him and he never wakes us in the morning before 8am. That might be different if you like to go to bed at 9pm, we've never tried that but he's an adaptable little thing. He can be left at home alone for periods of up to 3-4 hours. This is helpful if you wish to go shopping or out for a meal one evening without taking him but he's quite good at settling down in a pub. He sleeps in the conservatory and has free run of the house downstairs. Since we had a new oak staircase installed (and light cream carpets upstairs) he does not go upstairs at all. We don't have to remind him he simply doesn't try to go up. Secondly, we would like the fish to be fed once a day. There are over 60 goldfish and three large koi carp in a raised pond which is at least 1 metre deep (hence the house sit not being suitable for young children). Their hungry mouths gaping at the surface will remind you. Thirdly, we would really appreciate the plants being watered - this would be daily when there's been no rain and the weather is hot but depending on season and weather conditions might be less.

I was given a lovely welcome by Bev and Peter into their beautiful home. Ziggy their young black lab cross was a really sweet natured trusting dog, and I loved spending time with him. We went on many beautiful walks in woods nearby and the Nature Reserve of Towan dunes at Gwithian above the beautiful beach which he relished and led the way. I would definitely recommend this sit as it is very well placed for exploring the beaches and countryside on both sides of Cornwall and , of course, for spending time with a special dog called Ziggy! Bev kept in touch with me the whole time which was really helpful too. Thanks to you both.

Beverley and Peter are lovely people and their dog Ziggy is a brilliant dog. We had a lot of fun walking him. He's super cuddly. The house is very comfortable. All that Cornwall has to offer is within reach: beautiful coastal walks, St Ives, the wonderful Kynance cove, and Zennor heads to name a few wonderful nearby spots. We thoroughly recommend this housesit. Thanks Bev and Peter, Wishing you all the very best.

We had a very nice time in Camborne together with ziggy!☺️ Beverley and Peter are very warm and welcomed us well and showed us everything. They have a very nice house with beautiful garden for sunbathing and everything is super clean. we immediately felt comfortable there and also with ziggy we had fun right away😊 ziggy is a simple dog who just wants love from you and would love to play all day. Everything was very simple and well structured. There are nice paths nearby on which you can walk with ziggy and also play with the ball. He loves to play with the ball and is so full of energy that he would love to do it all day. he hears very well you can walk with him off leash. We can totally recommend them and would love to come back again!🥰
