Tim and Sasha, Cornwall
Introduction
I'm a retired widower and live alone with my one Border Collie near Bodmin, Cornwall. I have some voluntary roles, most of which I can carry out from home, but sometimes I have to be away overnight. My daughter in Plymouth has often looked after the dog, but she is moving away soon, so I need to find someone to come here to dog and house sit.

Detached three bedroom house, in modern cottage style, with gated front drive and secure and secluded garden, situated in a quiet village, with a school, but no shops or pub, 4 miles from Bodmin, almost equidistant from the North Cornwall coast and the South Cornwall coast. Own transport is essential, but the many attractions of Cornwall are in easy travelling distance, including the Eden Project 15 miles away.

Sasha is a rescue dog and has been with me for 20 months after her original owner died. She doesn't get on with other dogs, so must be the only dog in the house, but she can be 'steered' past them if met on a walk. She is anxious about traffic, even on quiet country lanes, so I tend to walk her on nearby moorland, but she likes woods and occasional trips to the beach. She is not aggressive, but barks at strangers until she gets to know them, and doesn't want to be patted or stroked until she's ready. She has tablets to help her skin and coat every day, but no other medication currently. Two meals a day, two walks a day (variable length, but most days she can happily cover up to 2 miles). Any need to water will depend on the weather. There are water butts.

Another lovely stay with Sasha at Tim's lovely house on Bodmin. As usual, Tim had left clear instructions beforehand and we were both on the same page regarding our arrivals and departures to ensure that Sasha was well taken care of. Sasha is a rescue dog, so - despite having looked after before - she is often a little apprehensive on our re-meeting. This makes it all the more welcome when she comes to trust me again (a few treats and a walk usually do the trick) and after that we tend to be firm friends. Sasha has two walks a day, usually one in the lovely nearby woodlands and one on the moor (a short drive) and she is fed twice a day (including a vitamin pill and, each morning, her medicine). Tim always leaves a few things in the fridge - and chocolate fingers for my daughter, when she visits - which is a welcome touch. Cardinham is a beautifully located village. There is not much happening there, and you will need a car to get to Bodmin where there are supermarkets and pubs (Cardinham does not have a pub). For those so inclined, there are any number of superb walks on the moor, my favourite being from Saint Breward to Blisland (with Sasha a willing companion) where the inn serves mellow ales and conversation flows. Many thanks to Tim and Sasha. My daughter and I are already looking forward to our next visit in the new year.
