Dog sitters for our 2 boxers in Cessenon, SW France
Introduction
We live close to the centre of Cessenon sur Orb, a lovely riverside village in Herault, with some shops, a cafe and restaurants. We like walking, cycling along the local Voie Verte and swimming in the River Orb close by. We work locally and travel from time to time to visit family in the UK. We have two boxers: a 10-year old boxer male, Rocky, and 4-year old lively female boxer Ola. They love their morning and evening walks and human company but are much happier staying at home than travelling with us overseas, and it would be difficult for us to travel long distances with two of them.

Our house is a Maison de maitre with lots of original features. It is fully renovated with central heating, air conditioning and a wood-burner in the living room. There is a very comfortable self-contained apartment on the top floor of the house for sitters to enjoy, it has 1 bedroom, 1 shower room and a very large sitting/dining/kitchen area (please note there are 2 flights of stairs from the front door up to the apartment). There is a large terrace and garden at the front of the house, and another large terrace at the back of the house. There are lovely walks, cycle routes nearby, the River Orb for swimming, canoeing and fishing, plus the nearest beaches are 30 km away. Cessenon itself has a supermarket, butcher’s, pharmacy, cash point, doctor’s surgery and 2 boulangeries. The picturesque village of Roquebrun on the River Orb is 10 minutes away, with swimming, canoeing & restaurants. Weekly markets are in Cessenon, St Chinian and Capestang. The town of Beziers is 20 km away and has shopping centres, theatres and cinemas. Although there is a bus service into Beziers 6 days a week, it is advisable to have a car. We have a small 2-seater van which sitters are welcome use for short journeys to take the dogs out for woodland walks, and for food shopping, travel to Beziers etc. Please note the van is standard transmission.

Rocky and Ola love their morning walks, around 1 hour each morning, and an early evening walk of 30 minutes or so. They eat 2 meals a day, biscuits and some meat or fish - they both have the same food. They can be left alone for short periods but definitely prefer to have human company. They are typical boxers, Rocky is a male dog so he’s quite strong & needs a firm hand at times but he’s very friendly with people and female dogs. Ola is lively, Very friendly, loves people & other dogs, & responds well to commands. No regular medication is required. Managing two lively medium size dogs is easier for two sitters and we would therefore discourage someone on their own. We have a few citrus trees and a few other pot plants on the terraces which will require watering if the weather is warm & dry.

Julie and Bill were friendly and welcoming hosts. We were given all the information we needed to care for their dogs. Our accommodation was lovely and we enjoyed the opportunity to explore this area of France, so interesting and beautiful.
