Long Stays! Home with a View & Tripod Kitty
Introduction
Hello! I am a physician who does work overseas, and often leave for 4 to 6 weeks at a time, but have a beloved cat named François. He travels with me when he can but I will be leaving in November for South Sudan, and then and February back to Africa, and to the South Pacific next August. I would Love to form some trusting pet-sitter-relationships and even potentially have a repeat sitters since I travel so much. I’m dearly hoping that I can find someone who appreciates my little home with a view, and my very sweet, personable cat so that I can continue to travel and work with a light heart. François is an indoor cat with three legs, so you have to do a litter box, but it’s easy with the genie. And not let him out…but otherwise he is mellow, sleeps and cuddles with you. If he had his druthers, a person would always be around and he will go into whatever room the humans are… But I also do work and he is fine at home in his sunny spots sleeping. Overall, this is a nice and cozy home with a view, a wonderfully sweet cat, and I do go away fairly frequently and sometimes for a month or more. My home is walking distance from the hospital and some nice Tacoma neighborhoods, and about 30 minutes from Seattle… We would welcome you if it’s a good fit! Thank you so much for being Animal people out there! - Tasha

My cozy home with a view is the upper two stories of a lovely Victorian, a heritage landmark that has been kept in pristine condition. Private entry and separate, with lovely shared yard and gardens. My bedroom is my favorite spot, with windows and a view of Tacoma and the Puget sound. There is a shared backyard which is well-kept, sunny, with a garden and a little fountain. There’s a sitting room/living room, and another small guest room. It’s cozy with beautiful views, and I love this place. There are outdoor but covered stairs to get up to my door, as well as stairs inside the house. The bedroom feels very secluded and sunny and it’s where I spend most of my time. The bathroom is quite lovely with a bathtub. House is wall-to-wall carpeting except for the kitchen which is hardwood floors. The stove is electric. There is a washer and dryer and a dishwasher and air conditioning. I don’t own my own car, but easily have groceries delivered, and can also walk to a nice grocery store about four blocks away. There are also some little restaurants within walking distance, pretty neighborhoods to run or walk in. If you have a car this is near some really pretty woods out by the water. Downstairs neighbors typically spend half the year in Mexico however they are a lovely couple that I see in passing from time to time and even miss when they are gone! I would discuss your stay with them. Wi-Fi is fast, everything is kept up nicely. And there are some cafés within walking distance in which I see computer people working. There is easy parking, it’s a very pretty neighborhood, walking distance to restaurants and stores and about 30 minutes from Seattle. The big pros are a pretty, peaceful bedroom and a nice neighborhood, not to mention this special cat. The less strong points: - accessibility: outdoor and indoor stairs - There’s not really a dining room or a place to eat a formal meal, say. (In the summer or fall, I typically do that outside where there’s a fire pit and table.) - Winter can be rainy around here and one year it even snowed! Overall, I love this house, and I’m always so happy to come home. And François is easy, loves to spend time with people. I think if you have a reason to be in the Tacoma or Seattle area we might be a good fit for you!

François is A three legged no tailed, indoor cat who requires cuddling, cuddling, Food, litter box changes and assistance playing with his toy mouse. He’s very athletic! He likes to nap. He looks out the windows and typically follows me into whatever room I am in. He loves shoes he just wants to smell them when you come home. He doesn’t scratch or bite or jump up or anything like that, he is the sweetest thing. 1. Lots of cat attention 2. Sleep here (he sleeps in bed with me) 3. Do as I do, which is spend time with him, but ok to be gone during the day and even a night. I work 24 hour shifts some time and I just make sure he has food and water and something to play with and extra attention when I get home. 4. Keep me informed of those plans if you are going to go away for a day and a night. When I am not working, I’m a bit of a homebody and so he is used to having me spend long periods of time just with him as well. 5. Take out your own trash and recycling. 6. Bring in my mail, which my neighbors usually leave on the stairs for me. 7. Empty the litter box 8. Feed François dinners and make sure water as well as fresh. 9. Be friendly and respectful to downstairs neighbors when they are home (they are gone for half the year.) 10. Keep me updated with pictures and thoughts about francois because it’s hard for me to leave and I will miss him! 11. Enjoy this area and this home.

What a wonderful sit this was. Tasha’s home in North Tacoma is so comfortable and she made me feel welcome from our first video chat. She is warm and personable and I couldn’t have asked for a smoother experience! She shared some of her vacation pics of shark diving and local kitty cats which was neat to see. And we got to know the neighbors Dan & Anne, they own the house and and they even had us over for wine and cheese one evening! About Francois the kitty, it was a real treat getting to know him and his quirks. He has 20 different meows and by the end I was starting to recognize them. For the first two days he stayed tucked away, but once he relaxed he was very confident and vocal! Tasha had a cat tunnel sent and it was fun to play with him and see him really get into it. We really felt welcomed and we hope to be back soon!

Lakisha is such a wonderful house sitter and animal companion! One could literally not find a better personality to care for animals. Lakisha is a detail oriented, focused but flexible career woman, who is somehow also an outdoorsy, hiking, nature-loving vegan, completely in harmony with animals. She’s able to work from home, so she spent tons of time with my cat. I don’t have dogs right now, but if I did, she would have been cross-country skiing and snowshoeing and hiking with them every day. She literally offered to bring her own cleaning supplies and detergent, to make sure that they are vegan and cruelty free. She organized my kitchen and took adorable pictures of my cat, and sent me a little videos of him. She is the perfect housesitter. I was really wowed by Lakisha’s care, and am so grateful for everything she did…taking care of François, my beloved three legged kitty cat, for an entire month, when I was on the other side of the world. When I first interviewed with Lakisha, she had really great questions. For instance, she prompted, “Tell me about your daily routine with François.” Then she truly listened as I described a day with my cat. Which, for all you cat people out there, is really not a very exciting day. But she took notes. She then asked, “Does he have any special needs or medications?” At the time, he wasn’t on any medication, but right before I left, he did get a prescription… And Lakisha was completely willing to embark upon the difficult task of managing medication in a cat that she had just met. She was really fearless when it came to his health and needs. I was traveling to the other side of the world, in South Sudan, where I didn’t know if I would have Internet access and was working in a stressful situation. Lakisha would send me pictures of François, or a little videos of him playing with his mouse. It was such a relief to know that he was safe and OK with somebody. I remember the day when she wrote to me that they had really connected… And I knew that he actually had a friend who saw his special spark. Then… (!!!) I had to extend my stay…over Christmas, and she stayed extra just to take care of him, through the holidays. Absolutely amazing. When I came home, the house was perfectly clean, with a little gift on the counter. Lakisha had remembered that I made a joke about taking care of my basil plant (It was clearly an already dead plant)….so she bought me a brand new one and also a really pretty nice smelling candle. I am so lucky to have had her with my beloved cat, when I was so very far away, never having left him for so long. It is amazing how somebody can be a stranger one moment, and then they are a beloved cat-auntie the next… Somebody to really trust with your pet and your home. Thank you so much, Lakisha!
