FORT WILLIAM, WEST HIGHLANDS OF SCOTLAND

Introduction

We are Ken and Anne and live in the West Highlands of Scotland. We are looking for a sitter to care for Hamish, our much loved border collie, who needs twice daily walks in the nearby countryside and loves lots of human interaction, games and snuggling up with you in the evenings. We have a lovely, comfortable home with all the usual mod cons, a wood burning stove, a beautiful garden with an outdoor seating area at the front, all within walking distance of Fort William town centre. Fort William has a lovely community cinema, an excellent independent bookshop and a good artisan bakery, as well as all the usual cafes, shops, eateries of various types, outdoor shops, supermarkets, etc. An excellent public leisure centre, swimming pool and indoor climbing wall are also close at hand. This place has something for everyone !

Home & location

An attractive Victorian semi-detached villa with a pretty mature garden and friendly neighbours. In a quiet but central location, within walking distance of shops and other amenities. Only a few minutes drive from Ben Nevis and stunning Highland scenery. Excellent public transport links (train and bus) to all areas of UK, including overnight sleeper service to London.

Responsibilities

Twice daily dog walks, usual food and water, ball games at regular intervals and care of property security at all times. Ideally, we prefer sitters to have their own car, as the dog walking location is 3 miles away. However, if the sitter does not have a car, we could consider adding them to Anne's car insurance, if this is the only option possible.

I spent 2 lovely weeks with Hamish. We bonded well, and he has a lovely gentle personality. Hamish is very intelligent, and tells you what he wants. Anne and Ken made me feel at home. They are the nicest people. The home is beautiful. I would love to look after Hamish again, miss him already.

I had the most wonderful time caring for Hamish at Anne and Kens home. Hamish is an incredibly sweet companion, well-behaved, intelligent and quirky. During the stay I stuck to his routine which included going out for a good sniff on one of his favourite walks, lots of cuddles, attention and ball games. It was partly a working holiday so this routine worked. Anne and Ken are extremely organised, hospitable and generous hosts. I really appreciated the dinner stocked for my arrival and they made sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed during the stay. Ken showed me around on arrival & gave a thorough explanation of the home along with providing a very well organised binder with detailed instructions, contacts, etc. The house is stylish, very comfortable and in a stunning location with amazing views over Loch Linnhe. All around it was a fantastic experience and fully recommended. Thank you so much for the opportunity to take care of Hamish.

Sanyam and I loved our time in Fort William keeping Hamish company! Hamish is a beautiful soul with a fun character. He is very intelligent and likes his daily routine, which is very easy to follow. It didn’t take long for us to build a bond with Hamish and once we had his trust and respect, he gave a lot of love in return. He loves fetching balls from the backdoor and playing games of chase round the living room; but also loves his cuddles. Often while sitting reading, we would feel a paw on our lap as a subtle nudge for some cuddle time. Anne and Ken are the most organised people we have met, which makes house-sitting for them very easy and straightforward. Hamish’s meals were prepped and labelled; we were given clear information on Hamish’s likes, dislikes, and limitations. Anne even provided covers for our car seats to keep them hair free – which was so thoughtful. Anne and Ken have then most beautiful, stylish home with amazing character. We visited in the winter months and enjoyed many cosy evenings with the log fire in the living room, appreciating the beautiful views over the loch. The surrounding garden is very well designed and has character in every corner. The kitchen is well equipped with appliances and utensils and everything is clearly labelled. We were both working remotely during the house-sit, the internet connection and speed was excellent throughout the house, and it was straightforward to set up a comfortable working environment in the office space. We were welcomed on the evening of our arrival with an amazing home cooked meal, which we enjoyed in the beautiful dining room. Anne and Ken are both extremely interesting and engaging; conversation with both was easy from the start. We loved learning about their professional background and recreational activities and achievements, which are abundant and very inspiring! Anne provided us with a comprehensive home guide which covered, not only aspects throughout the house, but also the surrounding area, including a list of suggested walks with detailed descriptions of each route (accompanying photographs were even provided!). We very much appreciated all the effort, care and planning Anne and Ken put into our stay. Their preparation ensured our house-sit was an easy, straightforward experience, leaving us to focus on having fun with Hamish! Communication before, during and after our stay was excellent. We shared frequent updates on our adventures with Hamish, and Anne and Ken were keen to know if we were happy and comfortable while they were away. We would definitely recommend the opportunity to sit for Anne, Ken and Hamish. Our experience was wonderful! And we hope we will have future opportunities to return!

Hamish our friend for our time in Fort William assured many adventurous walks in dramatic Glen Nevis in all weathers. Hamish’s great love in life was catching and chasing tennis balls, he was fun, well behaved and loved lots of games and attention. Out time spent in Ken and Anne’s beautiful, comfortable home was much enjoyed. They made us feel very welcome and had spent time ensuring all information about Hamish and their home was at hand. Much recommended sit hope to see Hamish again.
