Meela, Tao and Lulu would love to meet you! (And so would we!!)

Introduction

We are a small family from Australia and have recently bought a house Cordes-sur-ciel, where we live with our dogs and cat (most of who are also Australian!) And our five happy chickens. We are looking forward to meeting you!

Home & location

Our house is in a beautiful medieval village, we are walking distance to the shops, cafes and restaurants, we have parking available and a large garden. There is a train station about 5min drive away to go to Toulouse. We have a pantry full of organic food for you, a cellar with delicious wine, a fabulous view, great location, but the most wonderful thing about our house is the animals.... we are sure you will love them as much as we do! Our house is a beautiful stone building set on the edge of the village with views for miles on a quiet local street. It's perfect to explore the village and only 25 min to the city center of Gaillac or Albi.

Responsibilities

*****Please note - for this sit (11-19July 2024), the dogs will at a kennel. Only cat chickens and fish will be at home!**** General - feeding animals twice per day, letting -chickens in and out, walking dogs once or twice per day. Lots of love and cuddles for the animals! About the animals: Meela is a lovely old girl, happy to sleep most of the day. Tao is an energetic affectionate giant pup, just over two years old, he can be anxious sometimes with new people but is good when he knows you :) Lulu is an indoor outdoor cat, she's a total sweetie pie who likes to come for walks around the village and loves to sit on your lap by the fire. The chickens are friendly and free-range, they wander about the garden during the day and will return to their coop at night, they just need to have the door to their coop opened each morning and closed each night. Fresh eggs are all yours for breakfast! The fish tank is a small tropical tank in my son's room. Fish only need a little feed and that's it.... no tank cleaning or maintenance required :) Our houseplants are also part of the family, if possible, they love to be watered twice per week, but not essential for short stays.

On arrival, as we parked our car, we were eagerly welcomed by Alice, Ben, Jarrah and also their family that were visiting from Australia. They were excitedly packing their cars ready for an adventure in the snow. Meela happily introduced herself as well with wagging tail. Alice immediately made us feel at home and gave us a tour of their home, with necessary explanations, including how and where to feed Meela, Lulu and the chickens. This was followed by a cup of tea and all of us chatting like long lost friends. We actually stayed a few days longer than the dates shown and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Lulu went and came as she pleased, mostly sleeping in her favourite places inside the house (it was frosty outside), she would enjoy the occasional purring sleep on our laps as well, she also likes to communicate, her eyes are amazingly beautiful. Both Lulu and Meela are laid back and easy going (true Aussies). Meela is incredibly soft and gentle, I felt that she is very understanding as well. We explored the village with Meela, taking a different direction each day, Meela was so patient with us as we sometimes stopped to decide which road to take or just stop to enjoy the view and take photos, she seemed to enjoy looking at the view as well, especially if it was in the warm sun. Meela is an absolute delight to walk with. Both Meela and Lulu would keep us smiling or laughing. They both like cuddles and attention just as much as we like giving them. Come bedtime, they both liked to share the bed, though Lulu would come and go at leisure. Alice did say this is optional and to close the bedroom door if not wanting to share the bed. The chickens were easy to care for, our first time. Finding the occasional egg was like finding treasure and we truly appreciated the two that were produced. Alice and Ben's home is inviting, warm and comfortable and clean and organised, easy to relax. Alice generously offered for us to use her organic supplies. Their house is on the hillside of the village with a lovely view. It is a short walk, down through cobblestone streets and past quaint art shops, to the organic epicerie, little supermarket, P.O., traditional boulangeries, butcher, maison presse, cafes and restaurants. The friendly Saturday market includes local organic produce and dairy products. I was lucky because a young chocolatier was there for his first time too. The surrounding region is beautiful and has villages steeped in history and art. We thoroughly recommend meeting Alice, Ben and Jarrah and sitting with their gentle pet family. We would love to petsit for them again if the opportunity arose. Thank you for your trust in us Alice and Ben, we feel that we have made lovely new friends.

What a joy and honour it was to take care of Meela and Lulu for Alice, Ben and Jarrah. Despite only having moved in a matter of days before our sit, Alice had everything super organised and welcoming for our arrival and stay. Communication on the lead up and during the stay was excellent. We fell madly in love with both Meela and Lulu. Meela is a gentle giant: warm, affectionate, soft, funny, extremely responsive (she’ll give it a try but understands and respects “no”), easy to walk (on or off the lead) and an absolute delight to hang out with. Lulu had apparently been a bit unsettled in the move and retreated under the bed. But she soon came round and was very affectionate and snuggly (on her terms, of course, she IS a cat, after all!) She and Meela are so cute together, there is a real bond between them. Alice and Ben’s house is warm, characterful and comfortable, set in a wonderful location in the stunning medieval village of Cordes-sur-Ciel. We’d sit Meela and Lulu again in a heartbeat.
