A home in the Highlands filled with animals & surrounded by glorious nature.

Introduction

From time-to-time my partner and I both work away (very very occasionally we may even go on holiday!) …We're searching for someone, or a couple, with experience of looking after a house and animals in a remote location. If you love walking, a forest setting, skies full of stars and wood fires you've come to the right place! Confidence is key as we’ve a house full of animals & a garden full of plants - they all need loving care & attention & will reward you richly in return xxxxx

Home & location

We are located not far from Creag Meagaidh Nature Reserve and just up the road from Loch Laggan and the Ardverikie estate where Monarch of the Glen was filmed. Aviemore, the Pattack Falls and many glorious lochs are a short drive away. We are in a fairly remote setting so having your own transport is essential! Plus a can-do attitude and a love of the great outdoors.

Responsibilities

Our 3 geese (Suki, Una & Sir Spot) and 9 chickens (Audrey and the rest of the feathered crew) need letting out in the mornings, feeding and putting away each night before dark. They also need maintenance cleaning and their water changing. Then there's our cat (Haggis) who needs feeding and stroking too. Plus our dog Bob needs feeding and a good walk each day off the lead. There are forest tracks in front and behind the house. We are looking for a house-sitter(s) who have experience and can handle a loving, strong, confident 8 year old big dog. Bob is our Fur-Baby and has never been in the house on his own so if you're heading out to the cinema or for a meal please take him with you, he's very happy to stay in the car (Autumn/Winter) whilst you eat/watch a film :-). He always goes with us on days-out too, think waterside walks, mountain trails and hiking. We use a Halti (headcollar) on the lead as he is a strong, intact, male dog but he's happiest if he's had a good run off the lead behind the house before you head out. We have a close friend Calum who lives up the road and is happy to help should you require any assistance. We are looking for sitters who have experience of looking after non-neutered male dogs. We have an Honesty Box that will need restocking with cake & jam (I always bake ahead so worry not you won’t need to!)

What a great house sit... Robyn and Tony made us (me and my partner – who isn’t in the listing but they were very welcoming of) feel so at home in their quirky and eclectic house. They are kind, generous and hospitable and the sit itself is straightforward and easy. Bob is a lovely character, he’s young and excitable but with a soft and sweet nature, he's really fun to be out on the hills with, but not used to being alone or independent yet so can be a little needy around the house (he follows from room to room constantly hoping for a bit of excitement!😂) Haggis the cat is super chill and easy company too and the feathered lot and honesty box are easy to take care of. Their friend and neighbour Callum was super helpful and lovely to have around too. The location is incredible, in the heart of Scotland with stunning views in every direction. I loved my time here and would happily recommend and return! Thanks again Robyn and Tony! xx

We had an absolutely brilliant time looking after Robyn and Tony’s beautiful house and precious pets! Although we did meet Bob we didn’t get the pleasure of his company this time round as they took him with them. Haggis is just purrfect and easy to love. The feathered friends are easy to look after too. The area is just gorgeous to explore with so many things to see just a short drive away. Robyn and Tony are fantastic hosts that made us feel so welcome in their home. We hope to see them again some time. Was very nice to have a home cooked meal and a glass of wine on our arrival. Thanks guys!!

I throughly enjoyed house sitting for Robyn and Tony. Haggis the cat was a wonderful companion for my stay. She got used to me very quickly and we both enjoyed some couch time in front of the cozy fire in the evening. Robyn and Tony had set up the care of the chickens and geese very well, so they were super easy to look after. All the animals, furry and feathered, had distinct personalities which I enjoy. The geese like to think they are in charge, and the chickens enjoy a wee chat at any time. Although I didn’t look after Bob on this sit, I did meet him and he is a wonderfully natured dog. After talking to neighbours it seems that everyone loves Bob. Looking after “The Honesty Spot” was no problem at all and it was interesting to see people stop to purchase some of Robyns delicious home baked goodies and take pictures of the stunning box. The location of this sit is perfect for anyone who likes hill walking, you will enjoy Highland Scottish scenery at its best. Above all the positive comments I could make about this sit, I would have to say that you would be hard pressed to find a nicer couple than Robyn and Tony. They made me feel extremely welcome and I was very comfortable in their home. I look forward to meeting them (and all the pets) again in the near future.

Robyn and Tony were extremely welcoming and gracious hosts including stocking the kitchen/fridge for us based on our favorite foods and preparing tasty meals that we all shared together during the pre-sit overlap period. Our room was clean and lovingly prepared and we appreciated all the new toiletries left for our us. Taking care of the furry and feathered family was straightforward. We really enjoyed cuddling with Haggis the cat and absolutely loved walking in the forest with Bob—and watching him frolic in the nearby lochs and streams. The clucky chickens were surprisingly charismatic and provided us with a steady supply of fresh eggs. And even though it was summer during our sit; the evenings were quite cold and making a toasty fire and watching crazy UK television shows became one of our favorite parts of the sit cuddled up on the cozy couch. We enjoyed farm/cabin life in the beautiful natural setting of the Scottish Highlands and appreciate Robyn and Tony’s hospitality and the opportunity to take care of all their animals.

What a pleasure it was to house and pet sit for Robyn. Never have we been made to feel more at home then with Robyn, Tony, Bob, Haggis, Neepy and the feathery family too. The house and location are beautiful, we had a real Scottish Highlands experience. Bob was so much fun to look after we had a ball exploring with him. We definitely recommend housesitting for Robyn :) Thank you for having us!
