Suburban home in Atlanta with sweet chihuahua mix
Introduction
Hello! We (Rhea and Josh) are a couple with two kids in elementary/middle school, and a ~22 pound 1 and a half year old chihuahua mix named Mia. We are traveling to the Philippines in July for 2 weeks and need a sitter to watch our dog. Our travels are typically only a few days long, this time we're going international so that the kids can go to the Philippines for the first time and meet their uncles/aunts/cousins! Josh works in the medical field and loves working in the garage on cars. Rhea is a scientist and traveling to know the people and culture (she used to be a Couchsurfer, and will book Airbnb over hotels if possible). This is the first time we're using THS.

Daily responsibilities include feeding, potty breaks, 2 walks per day, and sending us pics and updates. Mia loves walking, and will love you for taking her on walks! Mia's Routine: 7am--Wake up & Potty outside. Breakfast = 1 cup Purine One + 1 Tbsp topper. 8am--30 min walk around the neighborhood, we have a nearby creek that we usually walk to. Morning: Typically rests/naps in the morning and rings bells hanging by the door to indicate she needs to go outside for potty. If you're out for the day, she needs to be let out every 5-6 hours. 5pm--40 min walk 6pm--Dinner=1 cup Purine One + 1 Tbsp topper. Evening: Mia's usually active at this time, loves playing tug of war with tug toys (not ropes) and chewing bene bones or yak chews. 15 min of training for Sit, Down, Settle, Wait, and Stay. Sometimes we go to a dog park to play if it's nice outside. 10-11pm--Last outdoor potty break, last milkbone treat, & sleep in kennel. Mia's medication: 1.5 pills of mezcaline 2 hours before a car ride to make sure she doesn't throw up in the car. There is no requirement to drive her anywhere, but wanted to put medication here in case it is needed.

This was my second sit and this family’s first use of Trusted Housesitters! Andrea was always willing to text via the app , or, text by phone, or talk, to coordinate things for the sit. She was eager to do whatever she could to make it a great sit! I met Mia outside so she would be less threatened. She barked a lot , as most dogs would! She has learned several commands, such as: “sit,” and “stay.” I received a tour to get familiar with the house (which is lovely). Andrea’s family had left earlier to drive to their destination and she caught an Uber to the airport. Mia and I started bonding and she loves her treats! Had trouble the first evening getting a collar on her to take her on her walk because she was a little skittish not knowing me for very long. We played outside in the yard to get some exercise and energy out! It is fenced, so no problem! I found it easier to get her collar/leash (and bark collar for at night) on by having her up on the couch near me (she’s allowed on the furniture). She would sit on the floor on command but back away when trying to put the collar on in that manner. We took two walks a day, a little more than 30 minutes each. She was well-behaved and did not bark at other dogs or people when we passed them. She pulls some when walking but is manageable! 😊 She became very friendly (she loves to lick) as she got more accustomed to me. She would get near me and in my lap some on the couch for some petting. She LOVES her bully bone at night! She spends a very concentrated hour chewing it until it disappears! Andrea left a sheet of instructions that were very helpful, along with some suggested restaurants. They live in a nice safe neighborhood. Grocery stores nearby! My favorite restaurants I tried were: The Tipsy Pig (bbq-don’t let the Exxon combo fool you- the food was delicious!), and Arditis Pizzeria (wood fired-delicious). All in all, it was a great sit. Mia was a sweetie and Andrea couldn’t have been nicer! I hope you go when you can enjoy their peaceful screened in back porch that looks out over the back yard! Delightful!
