Cat sitting in Headcorn

Introduction

Hi, I’m Tom and I live with my wife Alice and daughter Lizzie in a pleasant village just outside Maidstone in Kent. We have one pet, a 5 year old cat called Ginny. Ginny doesn’t like car rides and has never really settled all that well at catteries so we are reluctant to continue putting her there. Our house isn’t large but is comfortable. 2 upstairs bedrooms but a there’s a sofa bed downstairs if needed. Lots of local attractions and walks if you want to explore or lots of games and entertainment bits at home if not. Alice and I both work in heritage and tourism, like playing board games and generally getting out to see new places.

Home & location

2 upstairs bedrooms (photo is of the master, guest has lots of baby stuff we need to tidy away). Happy for the sitter to use either. Upstairs bathroom has a shower/bath combo. We have a water softener as there’s lots of hard water in the area. Downstairs there’s a kitchen with fan oven, hob, fridge freezer alongside dishwasher and washing machine. Downstairs toilet and sink. Living room has a moderate size tv with PlayStation to get Netflix, Disney plus and the various free apps although it isn’t connected to an aerial. Locally, the village has a few good restaurants/pubs and a sainsburys. Trains run every half hour to London or Ashford. Maidstone is a 20min drive. National trust nearby is Sissinghurst (10 mins) and Scotney (40) and EH Battle Abbey is 40 mins and Dover Castle an hour. Canterbury is around an hours drive. Lots of walks locally. Leeds Castle where I work is a 15 min drive.

Responsibilities

Ginny is pretty low maintenance, she gets fed wet food in the morning when we have our breakfast and in the evening when we have dinner. We put dry food down throughout the day. She has a litter tray but much prefers going outside. Routine wise, she tends to stay out most of the day and will just need letting out in the morning and back in for tea. She tends to be unsure around strangers but once used to you, would enjoy cuddling on the sofa with you. She has free roam of the house but unless you want a cat in bed with you, shut the door at night. Nothing else to do really!

I house sat for Tom and Alice in March and they were both so kind. I was lucky enough to meet them before they left for their trip and they went through everything I would need to know about Ginny and the house and also had everything written down in detail for me which was very helpful to look back on! They also contacted me to make sure I was enjoying my stay and were very quick in replying if I had any questions. Ginny was very affectionate and loved being patted.

(Just realised that we didn't write a review - apologies for the delay) Ginny is such a gentle soul and so pleased she felt comfortable with us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, there are great walks around Headcorn and having a train station made it easy to get to Canterbury.
