Lake View Cottage
Introduction
Joanie (from NZ ) and I are in our mid 60s and work part time. We travel quite frequently, sometimes for extended periods. We have a 5 year old well behaved Labrador and would like him to be able to remain in his home and keep his routine. Our home is in a beautiful area overlooking Lough Derg (200 meters) between Nenagh and Portumna. A clean driving license is essential. Access to beautiful countryside and woodlands is possible for walking and cycling. There are 4 bikes available.

There is a farmhouse on the property and an annex/cottage. The latter is the house sitters accommodation and sleeps 4 comfortably in 2 bedrooms. It is modern, well equipped and warm. Finn lives in his bed in the hall of the cottage.
Show more...Responsibilities
House sitters would be responsible for Finn’s well being and feeding and walking (minimum 60 mins daily) him in the morning and early evening. You would also be responsible for the overall care and security of the property. There is a monitored alarm in the farmhouse, however a daily circuit of the house/property to check doors and windows and a weekly check inside would be required. Some watering of plants and lawn mowing may be required depending on the time of year.

I had a wonderful time looking after Finn on the shores of Lough Derg. The area is stunning with many beautiful walks close by. Finn was a dream to look after. Extremely well trained and obedient. He adores his walks. It was an absolute pleasure looking after him. The cottage is very comfortable and easy to heat with a wood burning stove. I loved staying there. Extremely cosy with everything you need. Johnny and Joanie are wonderful people and very accommodating. I would highly recommend this sit to anyone considering. It is one of my favourites so far!

I really enjoyed my stay at the cottage with Finn over Christmas and would definitely recommend this sit. John is a friendly and generous host. He invited me over a few days in advance to settle into the cottage. When I arrived he took time to show me around the property and to show me the best places to walk Finn in the locality. Finn is a friendly, happy dog and a great companion. John has trained him extremely well . He is very obedient and will always come to his whistle when out walking. The cottage has a nice layout , is well insulated and has a stove so was very cosy over winter. The location is excellent with stunning views over Lough Derg. There are plenty of woodlands and lake side walks to explore in the area with Finn. I work from home and found the internet connection and phone coverage very good for my needs.

Where to start? Just class! First of all, Finn is an absolute dream companion. He’s just the best. It was heartbreaking leaving him. It would’ve been impossible not to get attached to him within the 6 weeks we’d initially signed up for, so it was even harder after 4 months when our stay got extended because of John’s unavoidable rearranged travel plans. Finn is just an absolute character who’s super smart and responsive and affectionate and obedient. John has him trained so well. All instructions about Finn, his food, needs, routines and everything about the cottage were super clear before our arrival and anything else we needed during our stay was communicated and sorted so promptly regardless of the huge time difference. Secondly, the setting is just stunning! It’s a gorgeous place surrounded by nature overlooking the lake. It was myself and my partner looking after Finn and we were in heaven! We got to know the locals real quick along our daily walks with Finn and felt very welcomed and just at home instantly. So many gorgeous walks all around and we had great recommendations for walks within decent driving distance. This experience along the beautiful Lough Derg on John’s idyllic estate with the wonderful Finn has been an absolute blessing and we would be beyond delighted to be back with him again in the future. We already miss Finn so much! Thank you so much for having us, John!

This was a truly amazing house sit in a wonderful comfortable, cosy stone farmhouse with every amenity. Set on acreage surrounded by a stunningly beautiful landscape, farms and unique woodlands, overlooking Loch Derg and distant snow capped mountains. We thoroughly enjoyed the easy way of life in this piece of paradise whilst caring for Finn, a loving golden Labrador who took us on many an adventurous walk and quickly stole our hearts . Johnnie was an exceptionally generous, most kind and helpful host, he gave us the warmest of welcomes, immediately made us feel at home and went out of his way to ensure our every comfort and need were more than cared for. Originally, we were to stay for two months but alas, due to the Corona Virus we were unable to return to Australia. Johnnie did not hesitate to offer to extend our house sit until we were able to return to Australia. Two months house sit eventually became over four months. How lucky we were to have an extra two months in such an ideal location with our best mate Finn, leaving was so very heart wrenching. Johnnie thank you so very much for sharing with us your amazing home and the most adorable, beloved Finn. We are very fortunate and thankful to have met such a genuine, delightful man and Finn will remain forever in our hearts. An exceptionally enjoyable and memorable highly recommended house sit, one that we will forever hold dear in our hearts and would love to again experience. To all prospective house sitters, this is a treasured house sit that you will dearly love.
