Introduction

My name is Denise and my wife, Kathleen, have a 14 year old Calico and 2 four month old kittens. We recently retired and will be traveling in the upcoming year and wanted to ensure Mink (our Calico), Don, Pat and our home are well cared for. The kittens are a recent addition to the household. They are part of a litter of 5 3 week old kittens found in our backyard. They are unique in they have bob tails and great personalities! As a note, the dates listed provide an opportunity to meet the day before we leave and for a hand off when we return.

Home & location

The home is located a short (20 minute) drive from the local Atlantic beaches. It is a 5 minute drive to nearest grocery store, restaurants and shopping centers. The closet airport is Jacksonville (Jax) approximately 1 hour away by car. This is a 3-bedroom, 3-bath home with the bedrooms located on the second floor. It has an in-ground swimming pool and spa with a pool shed located behind the pool. The pool shed has exercise equipment, an elliptical, free weights, an inversion table and yoga mats along with a TV. The shed has a window a/c unit. There is a free standing gas grill on the pool deck. The 3000 square foot house sits on a treed lot of just under 1 acre and is situated on a cul de sac. There is central heat and air, an alarm system with outside cameras and large dining room and kitchen. There are two living spaces, one adjacent to the kitchen and a larger area with TV on the lower level. Two wood burning fireplaces and a well equipped kitchen. There are two guest bedrooms available to house sitters during your stay. One has a TV. Both are adjacent to the upstairs full bath. Washer and dryer are located in the garage and there is one garage space available to park. The house has high speed internet, streaming services, two home work stations, screened in porch and whole-house generator, if needed. There is a pool house that is equipped with exercise equipment and weights. It has A/C.

Responsibilities

We would like a meet and greet the day before we leave. We can run you through the house and its routines. Mink is a 14 year old calico and has chronic kidney disease. It is well managed and she does not require fluids. She eats 3 times a day. She eats wet food and has 2 different types in her 2 dishes. One is special kidney food and the other is a special wet food. Breakfast a 1/4 tablet of Cerenia. This is smashed and added to her food along with a small amount of aluminum hydroxide powder. The Cerenia is to curb nausea and vomiting; and the aluminum hydroxide is to help absorb the phosphorus so that its not a processing burden on the kidneys. Lunch is same but no Cerenia, that is only in the morning. Add the aluminum hydroxide powder. Dinner same as lunch. The litter boxes are scooped daily and once a week the litter is changed and boxes washed out. She will be reserved in the beginning. She isn’t a cuddler but she may sit next to you. She was part of a feral colony and she would follow me. I adopted her when I lived in Hawaii. You will notice she has a clipped ear. Her routine is she sleeps after breakfast and the around noon-1:00 is lunch and the she’ll nap and come for dinner around 5-6. She’s a cat so these times may vary. She’s a bit playful but has settled into a more sedentary life. The 2 kittens, both boys, are playful and eat 3 times a day and have no dietary restrictions or need medication. Their food is different from Mink. On Fridays the pool service technician comes in the morning through the side gate and does not require supervision. Wednesdays trash and recycling bins are rolled to the curb for pickup on Thursday; Saturdays the generator runs a test around 9:30am for about 15 minutes. You’ll hear it run, no action is required. We are no smoking household.
