Two cute kitties. A restored 140 year old home. Merida, Mexico on the Yucatan MX

Introduction

Hello! my name is Elizabeth and I have 2 adorable cats, Elmo and Freddy. We live in a lovely restored 150 year old Colonial House in the Historic Center of the 16th Century Colonial city of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. You will find many expats here, but we a just a drop in the bucket. I retired from Silicon Valley two years ago and could not wait to get to a place where the locals are kind and helpful. It is very tranquil here. I will be traveling about 3 non-consecutive months a year, so if we hit it off, consider this a home away from home!

Home & location

My lovely one bedroom house is fully restored and has a dipping pool, washing machine and rooftop garden. It is fully and comfortably furnished and filled with folk art from my travels. There is AC in the bedroom . The bedroom has a Queen sized bed. Located on a small street in the Santa Ana area, the house is within walking distance to the Cathedral, Paseo de Montejo, a grocery store and Mercado, art galleries, museums, restaurants, cantinas with live music, the Merida English Library and so much more. You will not need a car as UBER is plentiful and incredibly Cheap! Merida is a very educated city with over 17 colleges and universities. It is a very tranquil and family oriented place. About 20,000 US, Canadian and European expats live here, so no problem if you do not speak Espanol. The medical care is very First World, people come here for dental work, plastic surgery, etc. The doctors are excellent and caring -- they also make housecalls! Most doctors speak perfect English because they did their residencies in the US. Safety: Merida was selected "the safest city with a population of nearly one million anywhere in the Americas by CEOmagazine. We have been written up in Travel and Leisure, The LA Times, The NY Times, Vogue, and a dozen of other publications. Google Merida to find out why! We are 18 miles from the gulf town of Progresso, you can catch a bus on the corner for the 20 minutes ride. Some of the finest examples of Mayan Ruines are within an hour away. Weather. Please note that April is one of the hottest months in the Yucatan. We also have humidity. I have an AC in the bedroom and fans thru-out the house. In the summer from 11am to 5pm, people stay inside, out of the sun. It's a time to dip in the pool, grab a cold beer and read a book in the hammock. Evenings are beautiful, especially on the rooftop garden!
