House and cat sit in Tacoma, WA

Introduction

Come stay in our comfy house in the beautiful Pacific Northwest! My husband and I both teach at local community colleges (I'm a librarian and he teaches history). We're going on a 1-week trip to see family, and we're looking for someone to live in our house and take care of our sweet cat, Johnny Rocket. He is healthy, we think about 3-5 years old, and soooo friendly and loving! He is extremely relaxed and sweet and is just a happy little guy-- he loves everyone and will want to cuddle with you! Our neighborhood is friendly and safe and nice to walk around. You likely will want a car, though -- you can use my Honda Civic while you're here if you like. We're 20 minutes from Point Defiance Park with a nice rocky beach and walking trails through the woods as well as a 5-mile shaded car-free paved loop (we enjoy walking and riding our bikes there). We're also 45 minutes from downtown Seattle, and 90 minutes from Mount Rainier National Park. There are two Safeways a mile away, and Asian grocery stores just a few blocks away. Our house is cozy and snug and we think it's pretty comfortable, and we hope you will be comfortable here, too!

Home & location

Our house is about 1200 sq ft, small but comfortable. :). The neighborhood is friendly and walkable with buses a couple blocks away, but you can also use my car (a 2016 Honda Civic). We have a nice shady backyard with a raised bed and plants and an 8 ft laurel hedge that runs the length of the property, which makes it feel nice and private and green. It will likely be cool and rainy in December, but we don't *usually* get snow. Tacoma is a nice, medium-sized city with plenty of amenities, but Seattle is only 45 minutes away. We enjoy going to Point Defiance Park, which is also only 20 minutes away, and is nice for walking, cycling, jogging, and picnicking. There's also a beach there where you can rent a kayak and paddle in South Puget Sound -- though I don't know how much fun picnicking and kayaking would be in December. :)

Responsibilities

Johnny is pretty easy -- he likes a couple of big spoons of wet food in the morning and evening, but otherwise we just leave some dry food and water out for him. He is an indoor-outdoor little guy. I give him breakfast as soon as I get up, and then he runs out the door to play for about an hour, and then he comes home and meows to be let in. He's best friends with the cat next door (Tigger) and they often play together. He's pretty self-sufficient! We'll stop the mail, and there's nothing to water in December, so keeping Johnny fed and happy is pretty much it! :)

Sitting for Johnny Rocket was truly a treat. Such an affectionate little guy who loves his cuddles. Enjoyed getting to know him and his quirks and hanging out together. Rachel and Bernie's home was a great place to be with an updated kitchen that was quite nice to use. If you have the chance, I'd definitely recommend sitting here. Nothing but nice things to say about the whole fam.
