Tommy in Hitchin for Christmas and new year

Introduction

We are Jack and Maria, we have been married 10 years, with Tommy our Persian-1-eye-rehome. Jack is Polish & Maria is colombian. We are homebodies and love to spend time either playing video games or cooking. We’re vegan but not the annoying kind. We just bought our first home and feel comfortable again to start travelling.

Home & location

Our house is a three bedroom house 8 minutes from the rail station. Its situated on a quiet road close to a couple of pubs and a church. 5 minutes from a Nisa and a local shop, and quite close to a petrol station. We have a garage if you have a car, and there is also street parking. The neighbours are quite lovely and there are a few cats around. Its really well located, walk 20 minutes and you’ll be at the town centre of Hitchin. Hitchin is brilliant, people are kind and smiley. If you fancy going into London, the train station is 25 from Finsbury Park.

Responsibilities

Out cat Tommy is chatty and spoiled. He might seem independent, because he is not a lap cat, but he values companionship more than anything. He is an indoor cat only, and all windows of the house have screens for his protection. We have been his keepers for 3 years, and have loved every second of it. He loves a cuddle, in particular a chin scratch and a butt rub. He is extremely fluffy, but he’s well used to being groomed on a daily basis. He is on dry kibble medicated food, which makes him drink water so its essential he has only that. We tried to get him to eat wet, he just ignores it (he’s a rehomed cat, he’s got habits). He has a feeder with camera, which will be set to dispense food automatically and a water fountain that monitors his water intake. The food bowl needs to be replaced before every meal, or every other meal. He’s got lots of flat bowls and you can chuck them in the dishwasher. The fountain needs to be cleaned and refilled once a week, it has to be washed by hand. He loves getting attention around food time. Since we need him to eat, do cuddle but try to be calm about it, if not he’ll ask for cuddles every time he goes to the bowl. The litter boxes should be cleaned on a daily basis. We use a recycled newspaper litter, pellets. They are really good for scent blocking and hardly trace around the house. We solids need to be put in the trash and the liquids get absorbed by the pellets, those can go in the organic waste. Tommy has a good routine, his routine is largely based on what his favourite human does. As long as he gets a bit of attention every once in a while, he’s fine. He wakes up around 7:15am, likes to be taken to the bowl. He likes a quick cuddle before eating. At around 8am he goes to sit at the office bed, next to the window. At 12-1 he likes to go downstairs and have lunch, but sometimes his morning nap stalls his lunch to 3-4pm. After 5:30pm he expects to go down to the ground floor, to the living room and he either sits at the top of the Ikea unit or on the footrest or on the window sill. He is a lover of blankets. He expects his human to be there with him, and will be vocal about it. At around 8 he gets brushed, there are three brushes but his favourite is the small yellow one so he can get his chin scratched. After brushing he gets ONE frozen chicken piece. If you give more than this he will not eat the normal food. If he is unhappy with cuddles, he might go on a food strike. He loves being taken to the garden, he’s leash trained and sits next to the patio door when he wants to go out. He will sleep anywhere in the house, mostly in the living room or in the study. Don’t be surprised if he wakes up when you come down from the bedroom.
