Nantasket Beach Summer
Introduction
Steve and I have lived in Hull, MA for a couple of years. We lucked out with a home that is on the third floor that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and allows us to see the sunsets nightly. After a long day of teaching we love the beauty right outside our windows and the proximity to a stress relieving beach walk. Steve teaches Theology and Social Justice at a Catholic all-girls High School. Steve is also the founder and Board President of an organization that teaches non-violent communication to people affected by incarceration. Julene is a professor of Intercultural Studies at a Christian College. Her interests are in Spiritual Formation and Conflict Transformation. Julene just finished her PhD and Steve continues to work towards his. We love to travel during our breaks from teaching. Oftentimes our travel is related to our work. In the summer of 2022, Julene took 8 students and alumni to Spain to walk the Camino Frances. Steve and Julene also went to Nogales, Mexico to serve at a ministry for asylum seekers. We hope to do more travel for fun and work in the future. We added King and Thurman, our 2 cats, to our family in December of 2020. We’ve been on the house-sitting end of TSH and are now interested in having a sitter hang out with our two adorable cats.

We live in a two bedroom/two bathroom condo on the third floor. The Condo Association has 31 units and is a six story building. The third floor can be accessed by stairs or elevator. Since we are a corner unit we have a lot of windows to take advantage of the views of the ocean, sunrises and sunsets. We love to watch storms come in from the ocean. We have a small balcony that gets a lot of use for sipping coffee or eating dinner when the weather is warm enough. The sitter would have use of both bedrooms and bathrooms. The primary bedroom is HUGE with a queen sized bed and bathroom. It has windows that look out towards the Weir River/Bay. The second bedroom has a twin bed and twin trundle. The trundle can pop up and the twins can become a King size bed. There is a desk and printer in the second bedroom available for use. The second bedroom has windows that look out onto the Nantasket Beach and Ocean. There is a connecting door from the second bedroom into the second bathroom. The washer and dryer are right next to the second bathroom. Our condo has a galley kitchen. It is our least favorite part of the place! We have all the appliances you’d need for everyday cooking or baking. We also have a Keurig and coffee pot. We have a large living and dinning space that is bright with amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean. Our TV is small but we do have Netflix, YouTube TV and PrimeTV available. The cats have just figured out the TV and can be entertained for hours with bird videos from YouTube. We also have high speed Internet. The open floor in our dinning and living room area is a great area for Thurman’s acrobatic leaps for feathers and Kings fetching of plastic toothpicks. The Condo has a rooftop sitting area (for use when the weather is warm). There is a space for working out that is currently under construction. If a sitter is interested in working out, we have a rowing machine, and a barbell with weight plates available. The sitter would have access to parking on the premises. You would get a parking pass so that the other residents of the Condo know your car belongs in the parking lot. Hull is a quaint little Beach town of 10,000 people. It is a destination public beach during the summer months and is quiet the rest of the year. Nantasket Beach has about three miles of shore and we are a 5 minute walk from it. Beach walking is a year round activity for us. There some good restaurants in Hull and several are within walking distance. Some of the restaurants and ice cream shops do close for the winter but there are year round restaruatnts within walking distance. We are a 45 minute drive to Boston. A fun way to get into Boston from Hull is by Ferry. We are also a couple of miles away from Nantasket Station which is a commuter rail that goes into Boston. Hingham is a very beautiful town that neighbors Hull. Hingham is where we go to the larger grocery stores like Stop and Shop and Trader Joe’s. The Condo has security cameras on the premises. The cameras are located near the lobby near the mailboxes and in the elevator.
Show more...Responsibilities
Feed wet and dry food in the Morning and early evening. Daily clean the litter box and vacuum up litter in bathrooms. Depending on the length of stay, the "Litter Genie" may need to be changed. King knows how to get past the ceiling rafters from atop the shower doors. We keep bottles on the shower door so he can't get up there. Might be best to keep the bathroom off-limits to him. The cats get us up early for feeding. You can ignore them or get up and give them food. When we first had people sitting for us, the cats peed on our couches. They haven't done this in a long time. But we keep blankets on the couches when we leave in case this happens. The blankets can be washed and absorb urine if that is an issue. We sure hope they are beyond this! We vacuum the house every other day and the bathrooms every day.
