We were so fortunate to find Steve when we went on vacation to Acadia with our three month old puppy. Steve was very easy to communicate with, so flexible, so nurturing towards the pup, and very engaged with supporting her training and growth. The small nature of his business provides dogs with an attentive and positive environment. We could not have asked for a better experience and will not hesitate to reach out when we return to Acadia!

We had the pleasure of meeting Steve when our American bulldog was just a little guy. He is a soft spoken, nice guy who truly cares about the pets that we love so much. He takes the time to walk, play and interact. I wouldn't hesitate recommending Steve to anyone who needs someone to occupy and tire out their doggies for the day.

Visiting Acadia for a camping trip and was interested in doing some hikes that aren’t dog friendly. Reached out to Steve asking if he had day care availability for our 6 month old Sheltie. He responded right away and was communicative and professional. He gave a tour of his home where Toby would be spending time when he wasn’t on walks and asked great questions about training habits so he could stay consistent if needed. He was very caring, friendly, and Toby had an amazing time! Highly recommend!

While vacationing and hiking in the Acadia area, I needed a safe and friendly place for my dog to stay while I went for a golf outing. Finding Steve's was fabulous! I did not want to leave my dog in a kennel all day, as I would only be gone a few hours. Also, I did not feel comfortable with putting my dog in a kennel, he has never been in that type of environment. Steve was very accommodating to my schedule, was professional in regards to asking for vet / vaccination info, inquired about my dog's personality, behavior towards other dogs, and likes and dislikes. On the day of the drop off, I was a little nervous, but when we arrived, Steve was friendly, and took time to explain what Barkley would be doing while I was away - walks and play time with another friendly dog. Barkley hardly noticed I left! Steve was also kind enough to send me a text to let me know how Barkley was doing. I would highly recommend his services!!!

Don't hesitate to call Steve! He was wonderful with our dog. My husband and I were visiting Bar Harbor and wanted to bring our dog along. Since we only had her 5 weeks, we didn't want to leave her in a kennel and risk any feelings of abandonment. We were looking for a calm home setting. Steve provided just that. When we arrived, he put us right at ease and was very thorough. He was kind, caring, and extremely knowledgeable about dogs. I felt comfortable leaving my pup with him. He was willing to work with our plans. We wanted to pick up our dog, hike Acadia, and then drop her off in the evening. We also left her with Steve for the full day so we could explore some trails that would not be dog-friendly. Steve's competent and gentle care of our dog made us feel confident in leaving our dog with him. I know our pup would love to visit again, and I wouldn't hesitate to take her to Steve's house! We are so grateful to have found Steve. This was our first trip to Maine and our 2 year old golden retriever, Josie, joined us for all of our hikes and ventures since Bar Harbor and the surrounding areas are extremely dog friendly. However, we were looking for a trustworthy option for dog daycare while we completed the iron rung hikes in Acadia National Park (no dogs allowed). Steve was responsive, professional, and made us feel very comfortable leaving our sweet Josie behind in a new place - after meeting him, we knew she would be in great hands. Steve verified medical records, provided comprehensive instructions for pick-up and drop-off, and provided interactive care for Josie while we were gone. During a short 6 hour daycare visit, she was treated to two walks, a play date with another dog Steve was sitting, snuggles, and hand-feeding when she wasn’t showing much interest in her food. Steve absolutely loves dogs and cared for Josie as though she was his own. We will absolutely be back next time we’re in town - thank you again, Steve!

Steve is terrific. We were vacationing in Bar Harbor and needed a place for our standard poodle to stay overnight so that we could bike in Acadia for a day. We found Steve's service through the other reviewers online. Steve was very responsive on the phone and by email. He gave us clear directions to din him and he asked lots of questions about our dog. Requiring us to bring her paperwork was an additional assurance. We felt very comfortable leaving our dog with Steve. He gave her a number of walks and some time off leash in a fenced yard. His price for the 24 hours was very reasonable. We will definitely use Steve's services again next year when we go to Maine and we would recommend him whole heartedly.

Our 13-year-old dog stayed with Steve for 11 days while we were on vacation. The dog was well-cared for and comfortable with the other pets in Steve's care and with his family. We did an overnight trial one week before our vacation at Steve's suggestion. The trial allowed both Steve and the dog to get to know one another, building trust. It ensured that Steve understood the feeding schedule and medication. I highly recommend Steve's service without hesitation. We will use his services in the future.

Our two Vizslas always come camping with us on Mount Desert Island, but this year we wanted time for family activities that didn't include the dogs. We scheduled three days of daycare with Steve, dropping the dogs off early in the morning and returning for them each night. Steve was wonderful -- professional, attentive, and detail oriented. He asked all the right questions and we felt comfortable leaving our pups in his care. On Days 2 & 3, both dogs went flying into his house, tails wagging...so I know that they had a great time. We're very glad that we have found Steve!

We recently visited Acadia NP with our pup, Connor. I feel so lucky to have found Steve to keep Connor overnight on a holiday weekend so we could hike some areas and do a few not so dog friendly activities. I immediately knew Connor was in good hands. He took the time to write down important details and asked questions. He kept me posted on how Connor was doing throughout his stay. He is an excellent communicator, planner, and was amazing with Connor. 10/10. Thank you, Steve!

The hardest part of traveling for me is leaving my dogs in the care of somebody else. This was my first time boarding my dogs with Carden and I could not be happier with the outcome. All of our communications over the phone were helpful and pleasant and I felt very confident leaving them for a week. When I returned, they were lively and did not seem stressed at all and they were clean and smelled great. I also think the cost was very reasonable. I wouldn’t hesitate to board with them again.

Carden kennel has been fantastic to our family. We had an urgent need for a stay for our new puppy and the team there was amazingly flexible and accommodated our puppy readily. They treated him so well that we used them for a longer puppy vacation while we were traveling a few months later. I love my dog and Carden treats him (and me, anxious dog mom) very well! I trust and highly recommend this kennel! Thank you, Carden Kennels, for taking care of Beezlebub the good little devil, so well for us!

This was my dogs first stay at a kennel and the first time is used Carden Kennels. This is a professionally run kennel. The owner(s) were kind and very pleasant. My dogs were well taken care off, they got to go out often and got plenty of treats and attention. This will be the only kennel I will use in the future. Needless to say I highly recommend Carden Kennels. Thank you!

Carden Kennel took care of our two Samoyeds while we were out of town. Staff was friendly, professional and kind! Accommodated my late arrival due to a 1.5 hour flight delay compounded by parking lot ticket deemed unreadable by automated ticket machine. Blocks from Bangor airport. Great experience!!

This has to be one of the best daycares for pets anywhere. The staff is absolutely amazing and are so great with my pup (along with everyone else's). They also do a fantastic job grooming our pup, who does not enjoy it but allows them to do it. Highly recommend Carden Kennels!

I recently had a work trip and Carden Kennels came through for me. My dog is currently awaiting a visit to the vet for her hip and knee, I let Carden know she would need to remain in mostly solitude and no running. They very much obliged! My dog was well cared for while I was away. My only slight negative is I was hoping to receive updates daily, only got them on the last couple days. I understand staffing on weekends is hard. Probably best I did not receive a report card daily because I sorely missed my dog once I did get that first report card!

We are so happy with our experience with Carden Kennels. Our dog is, well let's just say, rambunctious. He has a tendency to be a bit excitable. He LOVES his time at the kennel. Thankfully the owners see through his "more brawn than brains" persona & have taken great care of him. We are so grateful to have a reliable kennel who took the time to understand our unweildy pooch. Super appreciative!

There is no better place for personal attention to the needs of your dogs while away. We all wish they could stay home in their own surroundings but Carden does a great job keeping them loved and safe!

I haven been coming here for many years with my tiny Maltese. The attention and care for him exceeds all expectations I am elderly and handicapped now and they come right to to my car to get little Teddy for me and back out after his appt. I love the people who work there.owners, cutters, and shampooers all are kind and helpful.

We’ve brought our 3 dogs to Maine Animal Keeper for about 5 years now for boarding. They are really great with them. They have tons of options for pickup that make everything super convenient. We’re not rushing around. When we pick them up they are relaxed and sleep very well. All the exercise wears them out!!!

Huge shoutout to Ashley for doing an awesome job with grooming Leah, my Great Perinese, and giving her her summertime trim. Ashley is very professional and compassionate with her work. Thank you so much !!!!! 100% recommend !!!

Excellent place, helpful staff, clean. My dog seemed very happy there. Unfortunately, they have no weekly rate. At $35/day, it adds up quickly. I'm afraid we'll have to save Maine Animal Keeper for weekends, not for more lengthy vacation times.

Ashley did a wonderful grooming job on my pup! She is always so kind and cheerful, and I always know my pup is in absolute great hands! I Recommend 1000%!

We are so pleased with the grooming at Maine Animal Keeper. Our aussie-doodle Maximus was in desperate need of a grooming and had never been to a groomer. He was not a happy dog about it and was not cooperative at all but they were patient and did a great job. Despite the hours there I could see he liked them and that gave me such relief. I looked into many groomers and reviews and I felt this was the one. You can trust your beloved dog is in good hands here.

I have boarded here in the past but I just had my puppy there for the first time this weekend. My puppy went in excited and came out excited and tired!! She did well over the weekend and got to have new experiences like play time with other dogs, staying in a kennel, and just getting to see new things. So kind and gentle with all of the dogs, the staff there seemed upbeat and happy. Would board there again.

When we have to board our cat while away for a few days, this is the place. They treat her kindly, taking great care. She is happy and content when it is pick-up time!

Bodie spent the weekend at the "Spa" . Great facility for kitty boarding. Sharon and her team are fabulous. Gave me updates on Bodie who has early stage kidney disease. Good people.

We've always had good experiences here with our dog, Sadie. She is quite nervous and they've always been very calm and gentle with her. The groomer has good communication and we haven't had any problems with kenneling.

We always take our hoard of 7 kitties to Ashley to be groomed whenever we can get them in. She knows, and suggests exactly what is best for each individual animals needs and does it. We will continue to trust our sweet fur family with her …
