Tenement flat in the heart of Edinburgh
Introduction
I am an academic and my husband Andy is a sign language interpreter. Our daughter Tilda is 16. We love to travel but always feel bad at leaving our rag doll cat. Casper is 5 years old & he was re-homed with us in March 2023 (our previous cat Lupin sadly passed away in October 2021). He can be a bit shy around new people initially but he does warm up and he loves people & company so he appreciates being able to stay at home and having people coming to hang out with him while we’re away!

Our roomy Victorian tenement flat is on the 1st floor near the city centre of Edinburgh, with high ceilings, large windows and lots of light. There are two bathrooms - one with bath & shower and the other with a walk-in shower & laundry cupboard with washing machine and dryer. We love to entertain & spend a lot of time as a family in our kitchen, so our kitchen is equipped with a 4-seater dining table (which easily expands to seat 6-8) and plenty of cooking implements and a dishwasher! We have a shared garden behind our flat that you are welcome to use, but also we are very close to two large park areas - The Links and The Meadows, both of which are just a few minutes walk away. On sunny days in Edinburgh people tend to buy disposable barbecues and sit on The Links or The Meadows and have picnics. City and country converge at our flat - as we are based in the cute Marchmont village, a stone's throw from funky shops and cafes in Bruntsfield, 10 minute bus ride from Princes Street and all the shops, and only a 20 minute walk to Edinburgh Castle & the Royal Mile through the Meadows. For people who like to get out and walk/ climb, Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Cragg and Blackford Hill are all close by. Or the Pentland Hills are a 15 minute drive away. A short bus ride (approx 30 mins) takes you to Portobello Beach if you feel more adventurous about paddling in Scottish weather! It has a great cafe and beach promenade though for sunny days. There is an old Victorian Baths swimming pool at the end of our street (5 minute walk - currently being renovated but should be open soon) and a corner shop less than 1 minute away that has fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy, alcohol, newspapers and everything else you could need. We don't have a car, but the bus and tram network is excellent, and we tend to walk everywhere. Basically our place is the perfect location for a get-away in Edinburgh! Sitters will have their own bedroom at the front of the flat, with either a single or combined double (from trundle) depending on if 1 or 2 people staying.

Primarily feeding our 5-year old ragdoll cat Casper a couple of times a day (dry food only that we will provide). He loves people & company so appreciate it if you can hang out with Casper as much as you can - as he doesn't like to be left too long on his own. He does like to sit on your lap & likes likes to sleep in with people if possible. Also, if you could water the house plants once every 7-10 days subject to need.

Casper is a gorgeous, friendly cat with a very lovable personality. He is super playful, likes to snuggle in the evenings watching TV, he is very laid back and fantastic company; a true 'Aristocat'. Jemina and Andy's home is beautiful and full of character with everything you need for a truly comfortable stay. It is in a very peaceful setting with good local amenities within a short walking distance. Communication with Jemina was friendly and relaxed. She welcomed me for a short visit before the sit so that I could meet Casper and be shown around the flat which was much appreciated. Jemina's Welcome Guide is very detailed with lots of useful information about her home and the local area...10/10! This is truly a 5 star sit which I wouldn't hesitate to recommend, and I'd be honoured to return in the future. Thanks again to Jemina and Andy for welcoming me into your beautiful home and entrusting me to look after Casper.

A very pleasant home, within walking distance to the Edinburgh city centre. Lupin was a sweet and friendly cat to look after. Jemina & Andy were easy to communicate with, and they also provided some great recommendations for eating and drinking in the area. Highly rate this house-sit.

From the start Jemina's communication was wonderful and meeting the family and Lupin in person was a delight. Their home is situated in a residential, peaceful area of Edinburgh but everything is very easily accessible, even by foot. The Meadows and Arthur's Seat is literally around the corner. The main hot spots are a short walk away. The home is a true reflection of the owners, warm and pleasant. All the necessary info about the home and what to do whilst there was very nicely provided in a binder. Lupin, be still my heart. He is super affectionate and loves to be with you most of the time. Highly recommend and would definitely return.

Good communication making pre-house/pet sit arrangements. Lovely, friendly welcome from Jemina and Andy on arrival at their comfortable flat which is in a great position for shops and transport links. Lupin the cat made sure I knew when his food was due but was great company and a joy to look after!
