Tenement flat in the heart of Edinburgh
Introduction
I am an academic and my husband Andy is a sign language interpreter. Our daughter Tilda is 16. We love to travel but always feel bad at leaving our rag doll cat. Casper is 5 years old & he was re-homed with us in March 2023 (our previous cat Lupin sadly passed away in October 2021). He can be a bit shy around new people initially but he does warm up and he loves people & company so he appreciates being able to stay at home and having people coming to hang out with him while we’re away!

Our roomy Victorian tenement flat is on the 1st floor near the city centre of Edinburgh, with high ceilings, large windows and lots of light. There are two bathrooms - one with bath & shower and the other with a walk-in shower & laundry cupboard with washing machine and dryer. We love to entertain & spend a lot of time as a family in our kitchen, so our kitchen is equipped with a 4-seater dining table (which easily expands to seat 6-8) and plenty of cooking implements and a dishwasher! We have a shared garden behind our flat that you are welcome to use, but also we are very close to two large park areas - The Links and The Meadows, both of which are just a few minutes walk away. On sunny days in Edinburgh people tend to buy disposable barbecues and sit on The Links or The Meadows and have picnics. City and country converge at our flat - as we are based in the cute Marchmont village, a stone's throw from funky shops and cafes in Bruntsfield, 10 minute bus ride from Princes Street and all the shops, and only a 20 minute walk to Edinburgh Castle & the Royal Mile through the Meadows. For people who like to get out and walk/ climb, Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Cragg and Blackford Hill are all close by. Or the Pentland Hills are a 15 minute drive away. A short bus ride (approx 30 mins) takes you to Portobello Beach if you feel more adventurous about paddling in Scottish weather! It has a great cafe and beach promenade though for sunny days. There is an old Victorian Baths swimming pool at the end of our street (5 minute walk - currently being renovated but should be open soon) and a corner shop less than 1 minute away that has fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy, alcohol, newspapers and everything else you could need. We don't have a car, but the bus and tram network is excellent, and we tend to walk everywhere. Basically our place is the perfect location for a get-away in Edinburgh! Sitters will have their own bedroom at the front of the flat, with either a single or combined double (from trundle) depending on if 1 or 2 people staying.

Primarily feeding our 5-year old ragdoll cat Casper a couple of times a day (dry food only that we will provide). He loves people & company so appreciate it if you can hang out with Casper as much as you can - as he doesn't like to be left too long on his own. He does like to sit on your lap & likes likes to sleep in with people if possible. Also, if you could water the house plants once every 7-10 days subject to need.

Watching Casper for a couple days was great! Jemina and her family’s home was very clean and ideally located next to The Meadows park, which was great for running. Casper loves his cuddles and got his early morning zoomies in while we had breakfast each day, then loved playing with his toys and being near us.

Casper is such a sweetie! He’s easy going, playful, cuddly, and sooo cute. I really enjoyed getting to take care of him. Jemina did a virtual run through of everything before I came which I found really helpful. Edinburgh is a beautiful city and the flat is comfortable and really well located. I’d happily house sit here again 😊

It was such a delight to look after stunning Casper the cat. He is an indoor cat, loves strokes and games, and free-grazes. Jemina was a clear and friendly communicator ahead of the sit, and she and Andy welcomed me warmly on my arrival. The welcome pack and her explanations meant I had no questions about the apartment or Casper. The apartment is immaculate, really elegant, and is located in one of the best areas of Edinburgh. I walked almost everywhere, only taking a bus once, because my bag was a bit heavy. Love Edinburgh, love Casper, and I am coming back soon hurray!

What a wonderful sit! Jemina, Andy & Tilda have a beautifully refurbished and inviting home that has everything you could need or want to make for a comfy and welcoming stay. They’re in a great area with great little shops and restaurants, just steps away from The Meadows and within walking distance to the University and other sights. They’ve also got a lovely garden out back that’s a really nice place for enjoying the birdsong and sunshine with a good book. :) But the real highlight is Casper. He is an absolute beauty, and while a bit aloof at first, he warms up quickly and will always come round for a nice pat or snuggle as he likes to be where you are. He is such a sweet and easy boy to care for and to be with. Highly recommend this sit. Thank you Jemina, Andy & Tilda for allowing me to share your wonderful home and spend time with Casper!
