Pet sitter needed for two Border Collies and a charming Grey Cat.

Introduction

We are a couple needing a house sitter whilst we take a break from 13th May 2023 until , 27th May 2023, although we are flexible on dates. We have a young four year old Black and White Border Collie called Peg and a one year old Blue Merle Border Collie called Ned. We also have a cat called Dusty. We live in a lovely French Farmhouse, set in 20 Acres with a small amount of woodland and a beautiful swimming pool. The setting is rural, but near some of Southern France's most beautiful historic towns, including Toulouse, Albi, Carcassonne and Cordes sur Ciel. Although rural, the market town of Gaillac is just 15mins away and the beautiful Bastide village of Castelnau de Montmiral is visible on the top of the hill. Here there is a local shop, Pharmacy, fuel station, hair dressers. There are also several restaurants not too far away.

Home & location

The house has Wifi, Sky television, extensive music system, a beautiful en suite bedroom, with air conditioning, will be available for the sitters. There are many beautiful walks in the area and with the many 'Randoné' routes there is much beautiful countryside to explore. The house sits alongside the GR46 Randoné. There are interesting local markets, most notably is the Sunday market at St. Anonin Noble Val, on the Aveyron river, the setting for several famous films. Albi and Cordes sur Ciel, are both Unesco World Heritage Sites and are both within 40 and 30 minutes respectively. The house and grounds offer total tranquillity, yet are not far from many small towns.

Responsibilities

As this is quite a short last minute sit, We would favour sitters who are more local and who can drive to our house. We would expect any prospective sitters to be fully vaccinated against Covid 19, as are we. Primarily, we are looking for someone responsible to look after the house and two 'clever' and characterful Collies, giving them plenty of attention and walks. Ned is a 2 year old Blue Merle Border Collie and Peg can sometimes be a little concerned if there is a storm or gun shots from the local chasse and will need company when such things occur. The local Chasse (hunters) are often active on Wednesdays and at weekends, normally Sunday's, so it may be better to be with her at such times. There is Dusty the cat, who is quite shy, but playful and needs very little attention, just feeding. He sometimes will come in the house during the day, but seems to prefer to spend nights either hunting, or sleeping in the barn. We would also like the house to be kept in good order, occasionally netting any fallen leaves out of the very large swimming pool. (We will outline pool details later.)

What a magical place! Pete and Suzi are very welcoming and delightful company, and their 2 dogs Peg and Ned were such a delight to look after. Full of energy, they love having a ball thrown and are impressively fast at fetching! They also love a dip in the magnificent pool. This was a short sit but one that we'll remember fondly and would love to repeat some day. Thank you Pete and Suzi x

What a memorable experience at Castlenau-de-Montmiral! We felt welcomed and at home from the onset. Peter picked us up at the nearby Gaillac train station & we enjoyed a great dinner with them and got to know the dogs and property. Peg & Ned are well behaved, enthusiastic & energetic dogs; as expected of collies! We really enjoyed our morning walks and endless hours of throwing their special ball. Peg is completely devoted to that ball & Ned is devoted to watching Peg chase that ball. Very funny! Peg is sweet, sensitive & gentle, while Ned is like the goofy guy in every friend group that everyone loves; happy & easy going! Being 1, he still has a few puppy behaviours like jumping & chewing, but it's hard to believe he's only 1. He'll be out of that phase in no time. We only saw Dusty the cat a couple times; basically just made sure his food dish was full each day. Too bad! The home, guestroom and surrounding area are simply gorgeous and couldn't be more peaceful & quiet. The pool was wonderful on the rare sunny day we had, and we really appreciated having use of the truck to explore the plentitude of amazing towns within a short drive. We consider ourselves very lucky to have stayed here and consider all of them friends who we'd love to meet again!

We totally loved this house sit in Le Benge, Castlenau-de-Montmiral, Tarn. Suzi and Pete are the most wonderful welcoming and generous hosts. Suzi is a great cook and we started off with a delicious meal and a sampling of some great local wines. The house is absolutely beautiful and very comfortable. Tranquil and very green surroundings. Lots of bird life. Looking after Peg, the energetic sweet Border Collie and Dusty, the gorgeous grey cat, was very easy and an absolute joy. We loved our walks with Peg in the fields across from the house, along the river bank. Peg is very soft natured, well-trained and loves fetching balls. The surrounding region offers plenty of opportunities for short trips of historic interest. Peg joined us on one of our trips. Thank you so much, Suzi, Pete, Peg and Dusty! We enjoyed every minute of your company. Highly recommended house and pet sit. We would love to return for more. xx

Peter and Suzi are amazing hosts. Both very kind, very friendly and I really enjoyed getting to know them, and Suzi's cooking passion and talent is a superb bonus. I had the pleasure to sit for Peg and Dusty. Peg is a beautiful dog and easy to fall in love with. She lost her brother before I arrived and needed some extra attention, love, cuddles, walk and play time, which I was happy to offer. Dusty knows his meal times and is the easiest cat you could sit for. Their house is beautiful and I'm sure in the summer time, it has even more to enjoy. The location is very rural with internet and network disconnections that is pretty common in those areas. This is only challenging if you rely on it for work, like I did, but if you use it casually, it'll be just fine. I can highly recommend Peter and Suzi and am very happy to stay in touch. Rachel
