Pet sitter needed for two Border Collies and a charming Grey Cat.

Introduction

We are a couple needing a house sitter whilst we take a break from 13th May 2023 until , 27th May 2023, although we are flexible on dates. We have a young four year old Black and White Border Collie called Peg and a one year old Blue Merle Border Collie called Ned. We also have a cat called Dusty. We live in a lovely French Farmhouse, set in 20 Acres with a small amount of woodland and a beautiful swimming pool. The setting is rural, but near some of Southern France's most beautiful historic towns, including Toulouse, Albi, Carcassonne and Cordes sur Ciel. Although rural, the market town of Gaillac is just 15mins away and the beautiful Bastide village of Castelnau de Montmiral is visible on the top of the hill. Here there is a local shop, Pharmacy, fuel station, hair dressers. There are also several restaurants not too far away.

Home & location

The house has Wifi, Sky television, extensive music system, a beautiful en suite bedroom, with air conditioning, will be available for the sitters. There are many beautiful walks in the area and with the many 'Randoné' routes there is much beautiful countryside to explore. The house sits alongside the GR46 Randoné. There are interesting local markets, most notably is the Sunday market at St. Anonin Noble Val, on the Aveyron river, the setting for several famous films. Albi and Cordes sur Ciel, are both Unesco World Heritage Sites and are both within 40 and 30 minutes respectively. The house and grounds offer total tranquillity, yet are not far from many small towns.

Responsibilities

As this is quite a short last minute sit, We would favour sitters who are more local and who can drive to our house. We would expect any prospective sitters to be fully vaccinated against Covid 19, as are we. Primarily, we are looking for someone responsible to look after the house and two 'clever' and characterful Collies, giving them plenty of attention and walks. Ned is a 2 year old Blue Merle Border Collie and Peg can sometimes be a little concerned if there is a storm or gun shots from the local chasse and will need company when such things occur. The local Chasse (hunters) are often active on Wednesdays and at weekends, normally Sunday's, so it may be better to be with her at such times. There is Dusty the cat, who is quite shy, but playful and needs very little attention, just feeding. He sometimes will come in the house during the day, but seems to prefer to spend nights either hunting, or sleeping in the barn. We would also like the house to be kept in good order, occasionally netting any fallen leaves out of the very large swimming pool. (We will outline pool details later.)

Fabulous housesit in every way. Peter and Suzi were really easy to get on with, very friendly and welcoming, and Suzi made us a lovely meal on our first evening. Their home is beautiful – very spacious and comfortable, in a location with a view over rolling hills and nearby farms. And then of course, there was Mr Ben, and Dusty the cat. Both great characters. There are two pleasant walks for Ben straight out of the house. He does run off in the woods, but always comes back – you just need to shout and wait (not too long – longest time he disappeared was 10 minutes). We took him everywhere with us and explored several of the nearby bastide villages and the market in Saint Antonin. He pulls a little on the lead, but it’s not a problem. He’s friendly with dogs and people and we never took him out without someone falling for his charms! Dusty is an outdoor cat, but will allow the occasional cuddle. He always joined us on the last (pitch black) walk of the day, pootling along behind Ben and doing kamikaze rolls at our feet. We loved this sit and would go back in a heartbeat. Highly recommend.

What can we say about Peter and Suzi, they are a fabulous couple who welcomed us so warmly to their stunning home and showed us the utmost hospitality making our stay very comfortable and extremely enjoyable. We spent a couple of nights before and after the sit with them both and enjoyed great conversations, laughs and gorgeous food (thanks Suzi!) The have a gorgeously restored French house set in peaceful countryside within easy access to many lovely villages, towns and markets. We enjoyed Christmas at this sit and they had made a lovely effort putting up a fantastic christmas tree and leaving us some treats which was very much appreciated! The highlight of course was the adorable and characterful dog Mr Ben and his sidekick dusty the cat, we thoroughly loved the pets and had so much fun with the loving Ben who we will really miss!! We feel we left with new friends and hope that one day we could return even for just a visit :) All the best and thanks again for everything, Jo and Kev x
