Home & location

Well located and cozy flat, fully equipped with kitchen appliances, smarTV, wi-fi, washing machine, etc. Besides household items, there is also a self-cleaning litter box and automatic food dispensers for the cats - for the latter there are 2 items, one for each cat. Free parking. About 10 minutes cycling from the Scheveningen beach and about 7 minutes cycling from the city center. My flat is surrounded by cafes and restaurants within a walking distance.

Responsibilities

They usually eat dry food only early three times in the morning around 6:00 (that's when I replace the water) and 9:30. Then they eat three times at the end of the day, around 18:00, around 20:30, and lastly around 22:00. If I'm home, I give them treats throughout the day (5 pieces per cat every time, 4 times per day max - or 20 pieces a cat/day). I have automatic food dispensers, but would also provide some portions in the plastic bags as a backup just in case. I have to say: in the morning, Ragga may try to wake you up as of 5:30 am for food. I hope you're a morning person! He hasn't been doing it lately though. In fact, the more I play with him before going to bed, the more he sleeps in. Leena is a very modest eater, I always release 2 portions of food and hope she eats as much as she can. When she is done and there's still food left, I put it back in the dispenser before Ragga comes to eat it. I'm very careful with seemingly harmless items which can hurt them, like a plastic bag (or any bag with a handle) - Ragga has gotten stuck in my lunch bag once :( Furthermore, although they're cats, they're very much into having a person close by to play or just to be there. They're very fond of interaction with humans, each in their way. This is why I always prefer someone staying over rather than coming and feeding them occasionally - that doesn't mean you cannot go for a long walk or a day trip somewhere ;). In that case, I would suggest that you overfeed them before you go (e.g. if you have a dinner at 19:00, please feed Ragga 2 portions at once and feed Leena whatever she manages to eat before you go). When the weather is nice, I open the balcony and fully trust the cats won't jump out, however I keep it closed when it's too windy - I don't trust the hook which holds the balcony door open. I can explain further via phone or face to face.

With this housesit, I feel I made a friend. Well, three friends, counting Ragga and Leena. This was my first trip to the Netherlands and it could not have been better. Ana’s flat is bright and gorgeous and her corner of Scheveningen is magnificent—the Peace Palace is about five minutes’ walk away, as are the vast Scheveningen Woods. Ana is an incredibly warm and engaging person and communication with her was great from the beginning. She adores her cats and has thought of everything to make caring for them easy. Ragga and Leena will steal your heart, with their vivid personalities and playful natures. If you see a posting here from Ana, I suggest you hurry and apply—because I will definitely be trying to get my name in first! Thank you for everything, Ana.

We loved looking after Ana's cats, Ragga & Leena! They were absolutely adorable and loved cuddles. Leena, began a little bit shy but was soon sleeping on our bed with us and loved playing games with paper. Ragga was more relaxed and seemed unfazed by anything. He also loved playing games and was absolutely hilarious! Ana was the most wonderful host! Her apartment was lovely and she had prepared literally everything for us. We also found her to be a very thoughtful and generous person and wouldn't hesitate to look after Ragga & Leena. Thank you so much Ana! xx

Cat sitting for Ana was absolutely amazing! She had everything prepared for me and I felt very secure at all times. She even gave me her bike to use and that is especially great in The Hague. The flat is located close to shops and beautiful parks. I also went to explore the nearby beaches, the dunes and ocean. Honestly, it felt like a vacation even though I was working from home. I was very productive the whole cat sit through and felt at home immediately. Ragga and Leena are precious little beings and we got along perfectly. They are easy to take care of and will make friends quickly. I was sad to leave and will make sure to visit soon. :) Thank you so much, Ana!
