2 beautiful cocker spaniels in a Victorian home in South Wales

Introduction

My name is Charly, I am a mother of beautiful twin boys and we have 2 cocker spaniels called Hettie and Belle. We are very laid back Dog parents. We moved in to our forever home in February and have been working hard to make this the perfect home. I work in a high school in Cardiff and my husband works in construction. In our spare time we love to go on walks, go to the theater and we love camping. We love to take our dogs everywhere with us but we have quite a few family occasions where we cannot bring the dogs and our old dog sitter lives in Kent. I would love for a family, friends or a couple to come and explore South Wales with the company of our fur babies. Please feel free to bring your own pets with you as our dogs are very friendly and love meeting other animals.

Home & location

Our home is a large 4 bedroom Victorian house with 2 bathrooms, 2 living rooms, a big kitchen, utility room, drive and garden. Bedroom number 1 has a king sized bed and is spacious. Bedroom number 2 has 2 cots in but has plenty of room for an air mattress or camp bed. Bedroom number 3 has a double bed and bedroom number 4 is currently used as a dressing room with a dressing table and mirror but does have room for a blow up bed/ camp bed. The kitchen is where we spend most of our time as it is very large and has a table in it that can sit 6 people comfortably. We have 3 access points to the house, the front door, side door (coming off the drive), and back door (from the back garden). In the garden we have a wood chipped area with some toddler play toys and a paddling pool, there is then a stone circle, grass area and a top concrete bit to overlook the garden. There is lots to do in the area but here are the highlights for us. - Cardiff and cardiff bay - 40 minutes drive - Abergavenny/ brecon beacons - 40 minute drive - 3 waterfalls walk in brecon - 40 minutes - beautiful woodland walks - 5 minute drive - barry island - 50 minutes - town, restaraunt, shops - 5 minute walk You may see some of our kids toys in the pictures, but rest assured it will be tidy.

Responsibilities

Both dogs are used to being left during the day, so your day is your own to do what you would like. They need feeding between 6am and 9am I the morning and between 4pm and 6pm in the evening. They need 2 walks a day after they have been fed for roughly 30/45 minutes per walk

Belle and Hettie were two of the most adorable dogs who we loved spending time with. Communication with Charly was excellent. This is an old house in the process of being modernised and they are a busy working couple with young twins hence the slightly lower mark for cleanliness.

I had a lovely time at their house. Charly and Ben are such nice people and the communication before and during the sit was also great. I only looked after Belle and she is such a cutie, she gets exited everytime she sees you and she loved cuddling on the couch.

Charly’s communication was fantastic and we felt very welcome in her home. Unfortunately we only got to sit for Belle as Hettie was away so we hope to meet Hettie too in the future. We read that Belle was energetic and pulls on walks, which is not wrong (one of us had a small injury as Belle suddenly pulled in a different direction) but most of them time it’s a steady pull. We think she just got excited by something. She was fantastic with other dogs and by the end of the sit we did get her walking to heel, she just needed to get used to us and trust us. She did follow commands too. She is the sweetest little dog. She was just so excited to see us every time we came in or even just stood up. Her little waggy tail and face was just too cute! She loved to cuddle us on the sofa too. We had no problems sleeping through the night as she was good as a gold. The only thing that slightly bothered us about this sit was the cleanliness. We’re really sorry to say this as Charly was fantastic as a person, but the house was dirty. It didn’t look like it had been cleaned or if it had, a quick one. (Things like mess on the toilet seat, we couldn’t see in the mirror form all the marks, no washing up liquid, a full bin). We did have clean sheets and towels though which is all you really need. We followed Belle into the garden incase she did a toilet trip, and there was about 7 or 8 old poo’s left all over the patio which we didn’t think was fair for us to have to pick up and so this spoilt spending time in the garden. It would have also been nice to have been informed that they were renovating before accepting this sit or at the earliest convenience, not on the day of the sit as this gave a bad first impression. The room we were had no wall paper so it gave an uncomfortable vibe. These are only minor problems so we would come back for another sit in the future.

Hettie and Belle were very easy to look after. They were very friendly and liked to snuggle up on the sofa in the evening. We enjoyed our few days visiting family in the area. Both dogs were pretty strong on the lead, we did feel at times as though Belle was taking us for a walk, but that was fine for us.

What great company Hettie and Belle were for our short trip to South Wales. The most gentlest dogs, no jumping up at us, not into barking - just SO happy to see us. They were a pleasure to look after and travelled well in our car. Belle did pull a bit, but we worked out how to get her to walk to heel. Hettie is the sweetest, has the most gentle nature and walked on the lead so nicely for us. Evening cuddles on the sofa were lush too. Communication with Charly was spot on, nothing was too much trouble. Due to timings we never met but this didn’t feel like a problem at all. The house is going to look fabulous when it's all completed and was fine for us as was clean & tidy.
